Our family of 5 went tent camping for two nights here. I can see where other reviewers said it had went downhill but new owners are working on it. Tent sites were grassy (low cut) which was very nice & better than gravel. Bathrooms had clearly been renovated/painted and were clean. First night we had to swat mosquitos while in the bathroom (it's Ocracoke!) - lady at the shop gave us can of Raid, I sprayed the bathroom well and voila no mosquitos for the whole next 24-36 hours. (so easily fixed). My 8 year old declared it the best camping bathroom she's ever used. Convenient location. It is behind a convenient mart and next to a variety/grocery shop (who decided to mow their grass at 6 am Sunday morning with loud commercial equipment). If you are looking for complete peace/quiet, just don't expect this to be the place with the surrounding buildings; however it wasn't so loud we couldn't sleep (except the mowing neighbor). The campsite was small enough that I could see the kids go to the bathhouse and see them come back. Feral cats and random dogs left little prizes to step in (but this isn't owners fault - part of the island). You can walk to Howard's and several other restaurant/shops.

Love the friendly, laid back atmosphere at the Beachcomber. Great vacation and lots of fun! Located right behind the store which is a convenience plus. Also close to Howard's Pub and Gaffers!!! Owners are GREAT!

First I want to say if you are camping you don't have a lot of choices on Ocracoke, it's a small island! We chose the Beachcomber over the other campground - the National Park Campground - because of location. It's right on the edge of town with restaurants surrounding. An easy walk or bike ride to the shops, lighthouse, etc. We had torrential rains and the owners brought in a couple dump truck loads to fill in the "lake" that had developed. The grounds are well kept, the buildings need some tlc, but I understand these are new owners and are working on it. The worst part I think is that it is right next to a bar and both nights we were there we were kept awake by drunks in the parking lot - so take your earplugs.

Awesome time at Beachcomber Campground. The new owners were very accommodating to everyone's needs. They were out asking if anyone needed anything... It was really nice to see an owner really care about their guests. We will definetly return. Would love to stay longer!!
