Very informative. Well kept cemetery with historical value to the entire US. Can't miss it, right on British Cemetery Road.

Thank Charles A

Very interesting to see that British sailors were tasked with protecting our shores during the start of WWII. Be sure to visit the Howard Cemetary next to the British Cemetary. It is private, but many of the early settlers of Ocracoke are buried here. Note several of the graves had death dates that predated their birthdates (Warren Wahb, for example). Also, Ann Howard was stated to have died at age 117! Ocracoke is a great place to wander through the side streets.

This is nice stop in the middle of the village. It is very small area with just two or three plaques. You should be able to see the whole thing in 5-10 minutes.

We visited the British Cemetery while riding around Ocracoke on a rented golf cart for the day (which I highly recommend doing). We just happened by it and decided to stop. There are several graves and a plaque detailing why the cemetary is maintained by the British. It's very small. There are other more interesting and older cemeteries close by, but there are gated, some locked, and no trespassing signs on them. I would have liked to have seen some of those gravesites, as they looked much older than the British cemetery site. So visit if you happen to pass by, but don't make a special trip to see it.

The British Cemetery was very cool. Even my 6 yr old was interested in it. It;s amazing to see such old headstones and read the history. Educational & fun. :-)
