“Preservation of a Landmark”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

It is nice to see that Ocracoke has invested money in preserving the lighthouse. Much of the rest of the town is in dire need of attention. The area leading up to the lighthouse is extremely deteriorated and other than a small walkway to the lighthouse there isn't much else to see.

“Guarded by a lion!”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

I found a lion in charge of the lighthouse -- the world's fluffiest, friendliest orange cat. He made my visit even more memorable. The clean white lighthouse was so gorgeous against the blue sky. I thought the simple structure was awesome. No nonsense, just strong and steady. My recommendation when you visit: Park at the comfort station (by the harbor called Silver Lake), and then walk to the lighthouse. This is a lovely way to see the town.

“Loved this lighthouse!”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

I loved the Ocracoke Lighthouse - it still lights up at night right at sunset and I think that is the best time to get pictures. Even though this is a plain looking lighthouse being all white, it is still definitely worth visiting if you are a lighthouse lover like I am. Part of the appeal of this lighthouse to me was that it is on the very small island of Ocracoke which is very quaint and relaxing. You cannot go into the lighthouse but that's OK. You can get plenty of great pictures right there at the lighthouse or if you happen to go out on a sunset cruise or any type of boat ride, you can get pictures from the water too.

“A neat piece of history”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

While not a tall light house, still has some very interesting history connected with it. Not hard to find if you follow the signs, but don't drive past it, not much room to turn around.

“Lovely little Island”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

This lovely Island has much to offer including solitude if you are looking for that. Be prepared: travel by ferry to get there and back. It is so very much worth the trip. Weather is beautiful up into November. Just keep your eye on the hurricaine forcast.
