“BEST BED AND BREAKFAST EVER”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

Owners Pam and Mike have by far the best bed and breakfast ever. Clean rooms, friendly service, casual atmosphere, private location, delicious, light, fresh breakfast. By far worth every penny and more. Must stay!

Staying at Pam's Pelican was like visiting your hippie cousins at the beach. The place is relaxed, Mike & Pam are laid back and completely unobtrusive.
We didn't take advantage of the breakfast, but we heard rave reviews (and it smelled great).
It's not posh (and the Dreamcatcher room could use a little refreshing) - but it really was part off the charm.
The location is along the highway just outside of the main part of town - so you are not in the "middle of it" but within easy walking/biking distance of the harbor.
Complimentary bikes were a nice extra - and we made good use of them.

Room Tip: If you are the type that likes to sleep in, don't stay in the Dreamcatcher room, as it is right...

Thanks Kevin! Dreamcatcher is close to the kitchen and some travelers might prefer our other rooms but the upside is that guests who are staying in our Dreamcatcher room are the first to smell the bacon...Mmmmm!

After spending a full week at Ocracoke (heavenly), we couldn't face returning home - so decided to add one more night, and spent it at this wonderful B&B. From the friendly greetings of Pam and Mike to the beautifully appointed room, comfy deck, complimentary bicycles - and best of all - the superb (and filling!) breakfast, this was an outstanding bargain and a highlight of our Ocracoke vacation. Well done, Pam and Mike....and thanks! We will be back (not soon enough, though!). Craig and Sue, Raleigh NC

I've stayed in many B&Bs, and this one was one in which I really felt at home. Pam and Mike were helpful and unobtrusive hosts -- they live in the top floor, but we rarely saw them except at breakfast. The rooms were well-equipped with beach chairs, coolers (plenty of ice downstairs), designer toiletries, cable tv, coffeepot, microwave, refrigerator and wine glasses. We depend on wifi for work, and there was space available in the dining room at any time (except breakfast!) to set up my laptop. Breakfast was good and plentiful, including fruit, eggs, coffee, juice, yogurt, and with a different additional "main" dish (such as sweet potato waffles!) every day. A "can't miss" is the sky deck -- bring your own drinks and it is a cheaper and more private option than the more famous one at Howard's Pub, without the disturbance of street traffic.

For the price, it would have been great even without the "extras." The only complaint I had was in regard to the windows ... there was direct sun on our faces in the morning, in spite of the curtains and blinds both being pulled. (I threw an extra blanket over the curtain rod -- that fixed the problem :) ).

Thanks, Pam and Mike -- we'll be back!

Room Tip: Sun Daze is on the first floor; others on the second. The more-expensive rooms are larger and connec...

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed Pam's and Mike's hospitality. The home-cooked breakfast was exceptionally good, something different every morning and lots of fresh fruit in addition. Our room with a queen and a twin bed was very clean and nicely decorated; it was just the right size for our family of three. We also loved the free bikes -- the best way to get around in Ocracoke. All three of us want to come back soon.

My wife and I have been visiting Ocracoke for over 25 years. We have stayed in B&B's, hotels, rental apartments and the National campground. We have not had any terrible experiences because we easily get into the vibe of the island and thoroughly relax. We spent a few days with Pam and Mike (and Oscar) in July 2011. It wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive place we have been. We were never treated poorly anywhere else, but this place is just right. We will always check here first when planning a visit to the island.

As most reviewers have noted, breakfast is very good. Meals are varied and always creative. One of our favorite parts of breakfast is after everything is served and all are eating. The Mike and Oscar show races from the top floor all the way down to the ground floor. It's hard to describe, but really shouldn't be missed.

We will be back this year and many more to come.

We just left Pam's Pelican and miss it already. Pam made my fiace and I the best sweet potato waffles of all time. We plan to get married on Ocracoke in May and we came to research where our guests could stay, after stopping by each hotel the answer is clear that Pam's Pelican is by far the most bang for your buck. I would highly recomend this B&B over any of the available lodging on the island.
