Owner description: A tiny museum that features the history of Blackbeard, the 18th-century pirate.

We loved our visit to the Ocracoke Preservation Museum. It is a small museum with a few rooms highlighting the period through furniture, photos, clothes and the hardships the people faced. Also shown are a wonderful collection of local shells and other life. The rooms are small and easy to see. It is a lot of fun for kids, as small as 6 through to adults. There is a nice store at the entrance that has local jams, handicrafts and books. Well worth the short visit. It is free to all.

Like everything on Ocracoke, the museum is worth the trip. Take the ferry over and spend the day exploring the museum and surrounding area steeped in history. Ocracoke is striving to preserve the natural beauty, the horses that call the island home.

Worth the tour through (no cost) just to see the rooms and furniture from the period. Lots of interesting info throughout about the house, residents and the island. Bookstore/gift shop inside as well.

This small museum is free, but has a suggested donation of $4 per person. The house has several exhibits to preserve the island's way of life. You can expect to spend 10-15 minutes here.

It's definitely a tiny museum but the house is beautiful and it is loaded with artifacts and information about the nautical and Civil War history of the island. It's very convenient to park in the giant parking lot and walk up the main drag of town, hitting up the museum, restaurants, and stores.
