Owner description: Teach's Hole Blackbeard Exhibit is a unique attraction devoted to all things "piratical." Since 1992, the exhibit and its pirate specialty shop have been a favorite destination for families visiting Ocracoke Island. The exhibit features a life-like recreation of Blackbeard, a weapons display, old bottles, original art, a pirate flag display, ship models, and interactive activities. As visitors leave the exhibit, they enter a one of a kind pirate specialty shop. Kids of all ages will enjoy Teach’s Hole!

“Not worth going”
Reviewed June 24, 2010

We went to Teach's Hole and it was awful. We took it 3 families and we had 2 $1 off coupons and they said that 2 families could not use the same coupon so we had to combine the group. That did not make a first good impression. Then my sister-in-law did not want to go through the exhibit so she asked if she could sit on the front porch at the benches and they told her no. She had to go across the street. The exhibit it's self was bad. If you feel like just reading stuff and not acutally viewing old artifacts then this is your place. I would not recommend spending the money on this place!

“fun for the family”
Reviewed June 15, 2010

this place is a pirate shop & a blackbeard mini-museum! we went with our $1 off coupon which i highly recommend! so for $3, which isn't bad. we walked through the recreation model of blackbeard himself & model ships & watched the 8 minute video about his pirating & demise! it was interesting. then you get to shop & you can take a picture of yourself at the wooden cut-out of blackbeard!

“Spend the $4/pp admission fee elsewhere”
Reviewed October 7, 2009

PRO: one tastefully executed gun and sword panel - clearly constructed by an adult.

CONS: 95% of the closet-sized museum was filled with elementary, child-like historical exhibits. One can learn about Ocracoke's history (including pirate history) in every other shop around - from the bookstore, to the coffee shop, kayaking trips, etc. Rude staff ... of all the places on Ocracoke, we went to this museum to learn about the historical roots of this sleepy, yet welcoming beach town. The staff attitude is elitist, financially sizing up every patron that comes in. We're both long-time working professionals - a post-graduate level instructor and Federal official - and were shocked at the level of disorganization, inefficiency, greediness and elitism displayed by the staff. Save your money and spend it anywhere else throughout OBX. This museum needs to undergo renovation and staff -retraining on history, manners, and etiquette.

“A fun place to go on Ocracoke.”
Reviewed April 5, 2009

When ever we go to Ocracoke my kids all beg to go to Teach's Hole. (Several times if we stay the whole week!). It is a great shop for all things pirate. You can get an inexpensive souvenir and great toys for the kids. The museum is fun and informative. And we got a discount on their T shirts when we purchased a ticket for the museum! My daughter especially looks for the big white poodles that the owners of the shop sometimes bring in to work with them.

This is the only thing not worth doing in the Outer Banks.
Great gift shop.
The museum is about 12 feet long. Useless and boring.
A waste of money.
Your kids will be happy to return to the gift shop.
