Owner description: Owner and wine maker Mitchell Smith, along with his wife Susie, began their journey into wine making in 2004. Since that time Mitchell has expanded his personal love of wine making into an operational winery in Newport, North Carolina. Mitchell carefully selects the highest quality fruit available for his wines. He often travels many miles to make sure that only the best ingredients are used in his wine making process. Lake Road Winery specializes in wines made with North Carolina fruits and berries. Lake Road Winery in Newport, NC, near the beaches of the Crystal Coast in Carteret County, North Carolina produce some of Eastern North Carolina's finest domestic wines. Lake Road Winery is just minutes away from Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Swansboro, Morehead City and Beaufort. Our winery is also convenient to our neighbors in Craven County. If you are in the New Bern area, visiting the Tryon Palace or staying at Fairfield Harbor, include a visit to Lake Road Winery to round out your stay. Experience our fine wines in the quiet atmosphere of our tasting room or enjoy a glass of wine in our outdoor seating area. Saturday Specials will be announced on our News and Current Events Page and on Facebook. In addition to our wine tastings, we offer a hand-selection of food products to compliment your wine purchase. We carry a selection of jellies, jams, preserves, butters, pickles and salsa that will remind you of what your grandmother use to can in her kitchen. We have recently added several products from Ashe County Cheese, which has a rich cheese making history in North Carolina since 1930. This selection includes specialty cheeses, fudge, and butter hand selected by our Wine Maker. To round out our selections, we now carry Mamasita's tortilla chips Made locally in Newport, NC. Made fresh weekly, these chips are seasoned to perfection and add a perfect companion to our selection of cheese and salsa products. Come see us and spend the afternoon while enjoying Lake Road Winery North Carolina wines.

The service is exceptionally good. Felt right at home instantly. And the wines are as unique as the venue. Truly a worth while trip!

“Absolutely amazing!”
Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

Absolutely amazing people, atmosphere, and wines! Best rainy day activity on the coast! Mitchell Smith and French are great. Glass on the patio is a wonderful and relaxing way to spend a sunny afternoon. Also great place to buy gifts!

“Don't miss this hidden treasure.”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Luckily we live near this little treasure. We love to take friends and family with us, but often go as a couple. Well worth the drive off Hwy 70 or Hwy 24 .... just enter the address in your GPS. Mitchell is a very entertaining and gracious host! You will enjoy his wonderful NC Wines and great conversation during your visit. A wine tasting is only $5. If you are visiting one of the beaches along the Crystal Coast, add this to your itinerary. Perfect place to go after a morning on the beach. If you'd like, bring dinner or lunch in a basket and sit out on the patio. There are also tables inside if the weather isn't cooperating.
