Following a recommendation by our B&B hosts, my husband ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Being a Yankee the word "grits" struck fear in his heart, but he's adventurous and went ahead and ordered it. This dish was absolutely amazing! The flavors blended beautifully and the grits were creamy and delicious. Don't be afraid - try it. It won't disappoint!

I sampled four dishes at The Chelsea and found all four suffering from trying to be too wildly creative, rich and excessive. This is a trend in contemporary restaurants, but it is really a smokescreen for what should be the essence of good cuisine, which is to serve high quality ingredients, immaculately prepared, in complementary combinations.

I had never experienced Southern style shrimp and grits, so this was a first. The grits were rich and creamy and smothered in bacon chips and a sauce that made the shrimp seems like an afterthought. It was tasty, but so loaded with fat that it killed my appetite for anything that followed. Ditto the Caesar salad. The fried green tomatoes were served with a half-inch doughnut of mozzerella cheese (?) filled with an unidentifiable sauce. As for the tangy acidity that makes this a dish worth eating, it was no where to be seen. And where does a restaurant get green tomatoes in early March?

A redeeming factor was the cheerful, upbeat service from an anxious to please staff. Tell the chef to relax, guys, and to develop recipes that accentuate, not obliterate, the southern cuisine.

It's far enough "up the street" in downtown New Bern, that you don't have to wait long for seating. Food is creative and well-prepared. Top-of-the Heap" for New Bern which is certainly no food paradise! The bar is very unwelcoming, but the servers are well-trained and very pleasant.

One of New Bern's better restaurants. Until well, the one over the water.. opened it was our go to spot. Never had a bad meal. Have had slow service but it was always busy. Very good food. Parking can be challenging. Have been for lunch, dinner, & special events. All were done tastefully in every sense of the word.

Best Shrimp and grits I've ever had..... anywhere. Also try the New Orleans pasta and the coffee rubbed rib eye
