I used to go here but they don't serve Bass Ale any longer and I'm on a boycott until it comes back. However, I love their shrimp quesadillas. They are just enough and not too much.

The specials can be okay. The chowder is flat out nasty. It has the consistency of Elmer's glue. Get rid of the heavy flour thickener. What? You don't think customer's will notice you took shortcuts?

Liked Rattys better before changing kitchen. Three visits shrimp tasted chorine, come on this N.C,no excuse for bad shrimp. Second, please make tuna an everyday addition to the menu. iIts wonderful. You should upgrade your oysters, buy only the large plump ones. Again this is N.C. My obsevations are you still dont have frying seafood mastered.Your menu before the fried food was perfect. If your going to add fried food ,buy only the best quality available. On the upside your chowder is wonderful and your strip steak is the best in the area. when I first moved to N.C. I ate at Rattys as often as possible, now not so much now . Please continue to work on the quality.

The atmosphere is pleasing with roof top dining and live music at various times. The food is shameful. Everytime we go there it just gets worse. The clam chowder is decent but can be rather thick. We go to here live music on occasion and we stick to the appetizers. The mussels are usually a safe bet but don't expect crusty French bread with it. I have never had a warm french fry there. The food is pricey too. Go for the atmosphere, music and roof top dining but order appetizers preferably something that should be cold! Basically a tourist trap!

"Ratty's" mixes good drinks, has a fine wine list and locals keep going back for seafood. Not a "Date Night" kind of restaurant but what you would expect from a well-warn downtown favorite. Prices are fine, food is good, sweet tea is really sweet and the chef likes salt. If it's raining or hot, Ratty's has an ample waiting area and is close to everything downtown.
