This place is out of the way. We were in Unit 11A for the week. We were looking forward to walking to the rec center and marina as a previous guest had mentioned it was a nice walk. Unfortunately we were there when it was a record breaking heatwave - every day over 100! Needless to say, we drove to the pool and marina. Here's some tips:
1. The place is now called "RESORTS at Fairfield Harbour". The check in is on the left - a little BB&T ATM hut is on the corner where you need to make the left.
2. Fairway Villas need updating. The sofa is uncomfortable. The dryer in this unit could use a new drum - even with 2 light items drying it sounds like you are drying 4 pairs of sneakers. As someone else mentioned, it's very noisy. Not only could you hear every step, but every toilet flush as well - it was loud.
3. Look for the flashlight. We had a storm on Sunday night and it knocked out the power for several hours. It was too dark to find the flashlight so we got a new one from the front desk.
4. The grills are charcoal and look nasty - at least the one near the Fairway Villas did.
5. The NY Pizza on the way in closes at 9pm. The pizza is pretty good tho.
6. There aren't many umbrellas at the pool and the PVC lounge chairs and chairs are uncomfortable.
7. The pools and rec center are shared with the homeowners association. Yes, timeshare and residential mixed use and it's far when it's extremely hot.
8. The main entrance to the Dockside/Hurricane Restaurant is around the front - next to the tiki bar. The restaurant is very reasonably priced, pretty tasty food (we had the reubens, bacon wrapped scallops, fried shrimp/scallop combo and the Friday Crab Boil for 2 for $23) and weren't disappointed. The service is good too - ask for Liz.
9. It was extremely hot - we went into New Bern one day - skip Ribeyes Steakhouse for lunch - not worth the money. 247 Craven Cafe around the corner was EXCELLENT for dinner. Carolina's Grill is also very good.
10. Fort Macon Beach is about 1 hr away and a great escape from the heat. Don't forget to bring some folding chairs from home (an umbrella would help too). We stopped at Snapperz Grill - great after a day at the beach.
11. No midweek housekeeping! The place could really use it too. We are not messy but it's those extra little things that housekeeping would have time to catch up with when they are not trying to turn every place over on the weekend. There are cobwebs galore!!!
12. Check out the expiration dates when shopping at Food Lion - bought SpecialK cereal and also a can of veggies set to expire.

A little out of the way, but if you are looking for relaxation, this is the place to go. Our units have been spotless, upscale, and most importantly, HASSLE-FREE!
Situated on the Neuse river, the resort has boat slips, a fishing dock, and golf courses. At night drivers are cautioned to watch for deer that seem to be as thick as dogs on the greens and in the common areas. The waterfront units (three small ponds) are extremely relaxing and quiet at night where screened balconies overlook the water. Day trips in any direction are extremely rewarding for outdoor enthusiasts. The one thing we noticed is that it NEVER seems to be overcrowded here, and the locals aren't spreading the word.
The city of New Bern, 15 minutes away, offers many dining choices if you choose to eat out, and lots of culture to take in during the day. We have been back 2 times already, it is now our place to re-charge the batteries and enjoy time away. The day trip to Ocracoke Island is a must do!

Room Tip: Waterfront units are worth the extra $$

We were concerned when reading reviews; upon arrival were greeted by friendly staff -- stayed in Fairway Villas on the golf course -- 2 BR lockoff -- we are Wyndham owners and while this is not the Ritz, it was certainly acceptable and very clean and neat -- and by the way, the best equipped kitchen we have had in recent stays! We would stay here again readily -- it was convenient to the regional sites, and we would recommend this property to families with children, girls get away or couples retreat!!

Room Tip: Ask the front desk for your preference of a place -- they are very helpful

We reserved two units 11A/B and 12A/B for a family get-together from 12/24-12/31.

Although the units weren't up-to-date they worked well for us. The furniture and kitchen cabinets looked pretty tired although they were functional. The units were a good size. We did most of our "living" in the A side and really didn't use the B living area except for storage.

Our location was nice. We could walk to the rec center, marina, and the check-in. They weren't short walks, but it was such nice weather it was good to get outside. We took advantage of the miniature golf on Saturday (it was free for Wacky golf) and again on Friday morning. Neither time was it very crowded.

The negatives were:
The "free" wi-fi was very spotty.
Not much sound barrier between floors. We could hear walking and the bed above was quite squeaky.
The table in the A side was pretty small. We had to haul the table from B in so that all of us could eat together.
Lack of storage, ie: not much room in the kitchen to put our groceries. The bedroom closests were also pretty small.

The staff at the check-in were very friendly. They tried to accomodate us eventhough we were a couple of hours early for check in. We were able to check in an hour early. When our washing machine didn't drain we called the office and someone came out very quickly and fixed it. We had no other problems the rest of the week.

We did most of our shopping at WalMart before coming to the resort so that we wouldn't have to make the trip out again in the evening of 12/24. There is a Food Lion that is about 6 miles from the resort that we used several times during the week.

The location was not too bad for a touring base, but then we prefer places that are in a rural setting rather than in the hustle and bustle. We went to the Tryon Palace in New Bern and had lunch at the Cow Cafe which my grandchildren enjoyed. We also went to the aquarium and Fort Mason in Pine Knoll Shores.

We stayed here as Wyndham members. Well, it didn't cost us many points. Still, of several Wyndham properties we've visited, this is the least attractive, and we won't come again. (Actually, we are told, it is neither owned nor managed anymore by Wyndham,) Beds are hard, decor dated. Really, this is just a strip of condos in a gated community of private residences. It is a good 10 miles from anything, most notably any restaurant including breakfast--and the tiny efficiency kitchenette is quite inadequate, New Bern itself is interesting, but this location is inconvenient to anything except golf, which we don't play. The staff was very nice, what we saw of them. The unit is on a par with, say, a Comfort Inn or Days Resort--strictly 2-star. For a quiet, relaxing getaway, which we were wanting, it was OK--but I'd rather have been in town.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor. Don't plan on more than rudimentary food prep.

located in a nice area around a lake, yet it is outdated about 30 years. The indoor furnishings need replacing, the ceilings, walls, decks, woodwork are all worn out and look it. Smells old too. Bed linens too simple and cheap. Serious renovations should be in order. Nice and quiet area, but still offers very little for vacationers.

Room Tip: rooms on the lake have anise view, but they are old. It has 3 levels, tedious for going up and down...

As previous reviews have stated, this property is very outdated and in need of renovations. The property is infested with mosquitos inside and out. You have to drive quite a distance just to get to the grocery store. New Bern town center is also far away.
