“Leisurely lunch on the river”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

We had a lovely lunch on a cloudy Saturday at this restaurant. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. he suggested a cocktail special that was spot on. The food was well prepared and arrived quickly. After eating, we walked around the quaint downtown area and perused the many shops. We visited the historic site, the pharmacy where Pepsi Cola was invented. All around the town were statues of bears, the mascot of New Bern.

“The Perfect Combination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Having read a scathing review, I was hesitant to try Persimmons. But it was on the water and was recommended for gluten-free options. The exterior was very stylish and we were warmly welcomed. We requested a window seat and also saw that there was plenty of outdoor seating (both covered and uncovered). The interior was very stylish but comfortable. There were good menu selections for a reasonable price. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We were stuffed but couldn't resist the triple play sorbet of pineapple, mango and blood-orange. I would absolutely go back again.

“Great view, food, and service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Found this on trip advisor while passing through on our way home. Definitely worth the stop. Gorgeous view right on the water. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday. Started with a yummy mimosa. I had the local beef burger with local goat cheese and my husband had fish tacos. The server, Demetrie, was so knowledgable about the food and extremely friendly and professional. We were very impressed! Highly recommend this place.

“Romantic Dinner :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

Very very good. When I made the reservation, I told the restaurant that we were on our honeymoon, and when we arrived, the hostess congratulated us and told us that they had saved a table for us in the corner next to two windows with a beautiful waterfront view, perfect! (We had told them before that we preferred indoor seating).

Our server was friendly and prompt. We ordered prosecco, and she seemed to know what she was doing with the wine. She came back frequently throughout the meal to check on us and top off our wine and water glasses.

First, we had the local NC cheese plate, with came with olives and almonds. Delicious.

For dinner you can order from both menus -- the dinner list or the 'deckside' list, even if you're sitting inside. I had the lamb (so good!) and my husband had the crab cake sandwich and fries. I was super full but we ordered a chocolate cake for dessert.

I really liked that the service was good, but they didn't rush us. We lingered, drank prosecco, and they waited until our appetizer was (mostly) finished before they brought our entrees. We had a very nice 2 hour romantic meal. The waitress congratulated us again right before we left, which was nice, although I was secretly hoping that the kitchen staff would have written something in chocolate on our dessert (ie, Congratulations!) I think that would have really pushed the meal from 4.5 to 5 stars.

Still, I would definitely return.

“Reflections over the Neuse River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

Waterfront entertainment and excellent service. Perfectly situated on the Neuse River. Length 275 miles. The longest contained in North Carolina. There are views to the Neuse River Bridge where the Trent River runs into the Neuse. A fun run and 1/2 marathon is held annually in October across this bridge. Not too cold in December to enjoy waterfront meals. I enjoyed an ample serve of 'The Dirty Bird' Bow time Pasta. Chicken breast & spinach in creamy sauce for $11 We wandered in off the street and got a waterfront seat mid week.
