I surfed the net one late night and found this wonder gem. Called the hotel to ask more questions and a very nice gentleman named Leroy was so hepful. My husband and I were looking for a place to stay on the OBX for our first Wedding Anniversary. The Surfside Hotel was an excellence choice. We were immediately greeted by the check in staff who were more than eager to answer any questions about the area or offer suggestions for dining. The wine and snacks in the lobby was a nice welcoming treat. We could tell immediately that this hotel was different and so family oriented. This hotel is ran by a family and employees dedicated to assuring high quality customer service/ satisifaction. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. We really appreciate the quality bedding and bathroom toiletries. Hats off to Venus and the entire Housekeeping Staff. The pride in your work "shines" through ! Love the indoor/outdoor pool options. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay and definitely will return again and again. Thank You....VJR Portsmouth, VA

Just the night before our stay at the Surfside Hotel we decided to head towards the Inner Banks. We made a reservation by phone and got a very good rate for our night's stay. When we arrived, just before 6 pm, we were welcomed with some wine and nibbles, which was a nice treat. The room was clean and comfortable. Although we had the room just across the elevator (and we are light sleepers) we had a great night's sleep. We slept with our window open and heard the soothing sound of the sea. In the morning, the breakfast was more than standard with fresh fruit (not from a can) like strawberries and melon. There was a good choice of breads, cereals and muffins. A place that is surely worth to return to when in the neighbourhood!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your travels. It is great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at the Surf Side as our team wants to deliver a special experience for our guests. While I will have to assume you may not be back to see us in the near future as it is a long trip from Belgium, I do appreciate you taking the time to let others know about the Surf Side.

Years ago I remember staying near the beach in Nags Head and have held those memories dearly since then, so when I wanted to introduce my husband to the Outer Banks, I wanted him to have an equal experience. I did the research this time and settled on Surfside Hotel, right on the beach. This was to be our vacation from the vacation. See we arrived in Nags Head on day 26 of a 31 day road trip. After traveling over 3,800 miles visiting family and friends, and sightseeing, we were tired and wanted a few days of real R&R before heading home.

The Surfside was the perfect place to "pitch our tent" for four nights. For the first three nights, we were on the third floor in room 315 with two balconies, one facing south, looking down the beach and one facing east toward the ocean and every sunrise; for the fourth night we moved to the first floor in the same line (room 115). This time we slept with the doors open listening to the surf crash upon the shore, a welcome sound to my Cape Cod soul. This hotel is impeccably clean, simple in its decor, and perfectly situated on the beach, in the center of the Outer Banks, and easily near shopping and restaurants when needed. The staff is friendly and helpful, the elevator and luggage trolleys were welcome aids to these weary bones, and the views were mesmorizing. Every morning we rose just before sunrise to watch it rise from the ocean, and then went down to the breakfast room to get complementary coffee, juice and some pastries. This was an ideal location for our vacation from our vacation and what a value! Given our AAA/AARP affiliations, we got a discount - our room cost only $134 a night, now that's an incredible value.

Room Tip: Ask for any room ending in 15, e.g. 315

Thank you for a review that makes me want to relax and enjoy the perfection of our location more the next time I am at the hotel, which will be in two days. While on site it is always about business and making sure everything is operating as you and I both expect, flawlessly. The Surf Side truly is situated in an amazing oceanfront location and I plan on soaking that in a bit more during this trip.
I hope that you left with memories as wonderful as your trip years ago and that you husband has new memories of his own about the Outer Banks. Thank you again for placing your review and for choosing to stay with us, it is appreciated.

We selected this hotel with help from others on Trip Advisor, and we have been happy with our stay. This hotel is great for families with kids. We are here for spring break, and it is so nice having the indoor pool to enjoy during the day and night if it is too cold. The kids swim until they are exhausted and then we plop them in bed. (You can get free beach towels to use at the front desk for the pool/beach to return later).

The continental breakfast (included) is better than other places. With choices of hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit (grapes, strawberries, oranges, and cantalope), coffee/tea, dry and hot cereal, Eggo waffles and French bread sticks, bread, bagels, raisin toast, etc.

The views from our balcony of the beach and outdoor pool are lovely. It is so nice to not have to walk far to the beach with young children and all the stuff... There are also hoses to clean yourself off when returning from the beach. Kids liked the "cool balcony."

It is nice having free WiFi if you pack a computer... The hotel is located between milepost 13 and 14 in Nags Head - nice location and not far from Jockey's Ridge State Park, the entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the Tanger Outlets, and the turnoff to Roanoke Island...

The rooms also have a microwave and refrigerator... if you don't want to go out every night. You can drop by the Food Liion or Harris Teater is a little further down and cook in the room. The only downside is that you can't cook in the room with a Coleman Stove... only in the microwave.

From 4-6 pm every day, there is a Happy Hour with wine and snacks...

There is also a small exercise room and you can wash your clothes in the coin operated washing machines...

We chose Surfside based on Trip advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We were doing a quick weekend get away to OBX to celebrate my birthday so we upgraded to the honeymoon suite, which was perfect with a double balcony so we had ocean views on both sides of the suite and a huge in room hot tub. The hotel's location made it very easy to jaunt up & down the OBX -- we went from KillDevil to Kitty Hawk to Duck down to Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Bodie Lighthouse all within a half hour drive from the hotel. Check in was quick and friendly and the breakfast was pretty standard hotel continental fare but the food was fresh and plentiful. The only negative was that the pool was undergoing some repairs-- this was not at all an issue for us on this trip, but if we had been traveling with small children it might have been nice to know before check in. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the view of both the moon rise and the morning sun rise were spectacular.

Not long after making our online reservation, we were pleased to receive a phone call from one of the friendly desk clerks confirming our reservation. We thought that was a great courtesy, one that we'd never experienced before. During the confirmation call, I mentioned that we might be checking in late--the clerk assured us that it would be no problem. The hotel, with its large sign, was easy to find. The lobby was charming and attractive--and clean! We immediately noticed how clean the hotel is. We noticed the good, clean smell as we walked down the corridors, which faintly smelled of fresh paint--which didn't bother us, we were glad it had been freshly painted. It was also notable for the lack of cigarette smell in the hallways. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. The bed had a very comfortable mattress. And the view is awesome! From the fourth floor oceanfront room's balcony, we could see a great panorama of ocean. It was a terrific vantage point for looking at the surf...and in the morning we enjoyed watching the dolphins running. The hotel was also very quiet. There was evidently someone in the room below, but we never heard them. The hotel is very conveniently located to shopping, including the wonderful Cotton Gin. Breakfast had some excellent choices. The attendant there was very friendly and helpful, showing the guests how to use the toaster and how to locate items. Both desk clerks we dealt with were friendly, ready to help, and had good senses of humor. Overall, we would highly recommend the Surfside. It's a great stay and a great view of the oceans (remember to take your camera to capture pictures and movies of the dolphins!).
