Description: This local, Outer Banks restaurant is now in it's 35th anniversary season. That's probably why it's called a 'Nags Head Tradition' by locals. Currently open for breakfast daily. Weekends - spring and fall - and daily in the summer season, there's a robust fruit and breakfast bar plus some whopping good breakfast platters. When dinner opens shortly, Specialties are real southern cooking - like fried chicken. Also a specialty - local, Outer Banks seafood - broiled, fried, and always good. Steaks and prime rib round out the dinner menu. The "R" Bar is great for a late night meal or a special drink. And if all this isn't enough, there's Roxie's Retail - great, flirty finds for your home or wardrobe. It's a family run organization that is glad to welcome locals and vacationers alike.

“Overpriced for the food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2007

I've had their breakfast buffet and it's ok...HOWEVER, after having dinner there last night I will not be going back. The price was comparable to many of the nicer places in the OBX, but was surprised at how mediocre the food was. For the money - find someplace else to eat!

The atmosphere was also very poor and the service wasn't that great either.

“Child friendly, but otherwise stay away”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2007

This place was hyped up in the books, and it got us since we had a baby with us.
The menu looked promising, but turned out to be terrible.
We couldn't find the crab in the crab cakes and everything was fried and plain. There was nothing special to the flavor of the food at all. Very boring and unoriginal. The service was ok.
Do not waste your time going here when there are so many other good restaurants on the Outer Banks.
The place was very family friendly which was a good thing, but not enough to bring us back again.

The reviews and guidebooks were glowing about this restaurant and its "huge salad bar." While the service was friendly and efficient, the food was really atrocious. The salad bar is not "huge" by any modern standards, just what you'd expect from any average restaurant. The crab and shrimp au gratin sounded so promising but ended up being tiny shrimp like you'd get from a can, covered with a thick, inedible layer of cheese and a handful of large croutons sprinkled on top (the description called this "breadcrumb topping" - I'm thinking they ran out of breadcrumbs. ) The sloppy and chintzy way this entree (which is supposed to be one of their specialties) was prepared really ruined the meal. It was about 8pm on a weeknight and the servers (and owners, I'm assuming) were standing around counting patrons and talking about how soon they could close, not pleasant for customers to overhear.

The menu is large and I'm sure there are other tasty things on the menu, but our experience was unpleasant.
