Heard about this place because of Guy's (Food Network) visit there. Little bar atmosphere, but food surprisingly good. Cozy and small, but fun. Obvious local spot that has a good reputation.

Wonderful that this was open in the off-season. I've been here before, and again, it didn't dissapoint. There was still a bit of a wait, so be prepared for that. But the food was really good as were the drinks. I know some reviews had problem with service, but we didn't find that to be an issue.

Overall, great experience. Will be back again in July!

A treat for lunch or dinner. Specials are always a good bet, especially some of the soups. In (crab) season their crab cake sandwich is superior.

Small, rustic, OBX style! We didn't even look at the regular menu, but went right to the specials that are changed & printed daily. They did not disappoint! We started with a dozen steamed oysters ~ clean, shucked & on the half shell, spicy cocktail sauce for dipping. The tuna was fresh and local. Mahi looked tempting, but when tuna is good and fresh, why order anything else? Cooked just right with terrific sides of lightly saute'd veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. Surrounding tables had fish tacos, large salads, snadwiches... all looked and smelled great. Nothing fancy, just great local fare!

When traveling, we always eat where the locals eat. Tortugas is no exception. Open in the off-season, and crowded during the tourist season, this 'dive' (Guy Fieri ate there in July 2012) is one of a kind. Great mahi fish tacos, black beans and rice, bloody mary's, and a good beer selection on tap and in the beer cooler. It is a cinder block building that probably makes some tourist just pass it by, which is fine by the locals. We live only an hour away, and have been to the OBX many, many, times in the past 40 years....this is our favorite hang out, and as others have said, the vibe is cool and laid back, OBX style. Try the tuna, as it is always good when they have it. The big news is that the bathrooms have recently been renovated, and they look sharp as well.
