On a recent trip to the Outer Banks (for the first time) my husband and I ate at Owens based on Trip Advisor recommendations. It didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. It is an old Inn and was beautiful. Very romantic and we could actually carry on a conversations without shouting!
The food and service were both excellent. You get Cheese and crackers upon sitting down and portions were huge. They have a full bar. We liked it so much we visited again at the end of our trip.

First visit to Owen’s Restaurant but won’t be the last. Friendly staff and delicious meal. Had so much food we took a box home. Food was hot and had a private alcove. Decorated nicely for Christmas.

We ate Thanksgiving dinner here. If that feast is similar to the regular menu - it is a delicious place! The restaurant is a quaint building and the service was wonderful! Easily accessible for wheelchairs is a plus!

I've been a fan of this restaurant for 25 years. Always the best of the best, until this time. An off night? Perhaps. And I'm truly hoping that is the case. I called ahead, as the web site suggests, to let them know our party of 11 was planning to dine. The phone service couldn't have been more congenial or accommodating. We were seated quickly...and that's the last thing that happened quickly. Our server didn't take our order for over half and hour. Our overall dining experience took 2+hours. Scallops and shrimp were overcooked. Special surf and turf was not special at all. The one person in our party who ordered ribs was the only one who thought the food was good. But not good enough for the long wait to order and needlessly drawn-out service. I have giving this NH icon a bad review. I've NEVER had bad food or service here before. However, it won't be my go-to special dinner place anymore.

Just had Thanksging dinner at Owen's Restaurant (Est 1946) in Nags Head and it was exceptional. It is buffet style after they serve you soup and salad. The buffet items available are way too numerous to mention. The restaurant is like a very large house with numerous dining rooms upstairs and downstairs with all kinds of nautical and beach memorabilia throughout. The buffet choices that I had were tremendous and I couldn't eat maybe a quarter of what offered. You must look up the menu on line to appreciate the variety of main, sides and desserts offered. Well worth the price and the service and organization were superb. We will be going there again next year. RedDog
