This place is a goldmine! they have a good restaurant, gift shop inside the door, then they alos have a motel, cottages, the works!! The food was good, service was excellent, atmosphere, very busy...it's a great place to take your grandparents... My husband and I are in our late 50's and we felt very young....

“Always a great experience”

The atmosphere at Owens is excellent and the staff is friendly and efficient. The food is tremendous. Go early in season because, as you may expect, it can get crowded.

“Consistently outstanding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Four of us went out for a family birthday. The lobster bisque is a must have. We always get a cup. Salads are always fresh and dressings delicious. I decided to do the daily special, puppy drum. Never had it before. It was divine..it came with a gouda cheese and onions, but I requested something other than onions. Told the chef to surprise me. He did, with a lemon caper sauce that complemented the puppy drum perfectly. It was served over risotto that had butternut squash in it and that was delicious as well. The other parties at the table had the mixed grill, he loved it, the pecan crusted flounder, he loved it and the prime rib, and she loved it. A lot of food....well worth the price. Service was excellent, server had a great personality and it was just a very enjoyable evening. Owens is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere!!

“Great place for a nice dinner”

Celebrated my parents wedding anniversary here. The food was delicious and the service was great. It was a nice touch to provide a brownie sundae for my parents with candles! Thanks for making their celebration special!

“Under Whelmed!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

We were staying a 5-10 min walk from this restaurant and after reading all the good TA reviews we thought how lucky! We can walk there and dine in style! NOT! I can't really recommend this "throw back" of a restaurant ... sure some of the fish items are fresh and they talk a good talk but some things are unforgivable .... cheeze wizz and crackers on the table pre dinner?! Donut holes in the bread basket? Scallops wrapped in bacon app was dire ... watery, overcooked mush ... Calamari app that people RAVED about on trip advisor ... soggy just meh!! Dips were served in little sealed plastic containers that you would find in your MacDonalds takeaway bag! I kid you not!
YES the waiters are lovely and friendly but ours disappeared between courses and then basically "traded out" as he put it, our entree course for our appetizer plates that had been sitting for 20 minutes ... and don't get me started on the entree! Sautéed crab cake was "ok" but served with fries that had seen better days and yet another strange container with coleslaw in it.
The whole place is "odd" ... If you are a foodie don't bother ... terrible inflated prices for mediocre food ... Oh and the man in the gift shop at the entrance is beyond rude! (To add insult to injury after our meal!)
Maybe it's because we are British and well travelled that we found this a completely underwhelming experience!! The night before we went to Pamlico Jacks and had a great steak and shrimp in a buzzing atmosphere for a lot less $$$. Do yourself a favour and skip this one! I know its OBX and we are at the beach ... but it's the $60 per head price tag for a meal that I have a major problem with!
