This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and on our first night we went to Owens for dinner. I must say, I was a little shocked by the prices on the menu. There were 5 adults and 5 children. We were trying to pick out something reasonable for the children that they would like, along with for the adults. The food was of good quality and the service was alright. I definitely would not give it an excellent for the price and quality! There are so many more restaurants that are of better quality and price to visit in the Outer Banks.

This is an old, established family-owned restaurant in Nags Head. Ioaded with bric-a-brac and almost more homey than a person can stand. The menu is extensive featuring primarily seafood, but doesn't neglect anyone that would like something different. There has to be something on the menu that will take your fancy. I ordered the broiled seafood platter featuring flounder, crab meat, shrimp, and scallops. All items were broiled perfectly. I asked that the usual potatos be replaced with a vegetable and this was done with complication. Others in the party ordered coconut shrimp, scallops, and jumbalaya and all were well received. Most entree prices include a garden salad and seasonal vegetable. A dessert tray is brought around after dinner. Friends could not resist key lime pie, bourbon pecan pie, and creme brulee. Again, all items were excellent. Service is pitch-perfect from the waiter informing your of the specials to finally three-way splitting of the check. All of this is a bit pricy, especially in comparison to the more informal area restaurants that devote less care to preparation. You get what you pay for -- or as a consumer at least I can hope so. I only visit the Outer Banks once a year, but always go to Owen's and always come away pleased.

Visited here with large group during off season and we were immediately seated. Entry-way and gift shop smell like grand-ma's attic...like moth balls and old books. No moth ball smell once we were seated. The Lance crackers in a pack need to go! Come on people. Cheese spread was just cheese spread. Coconut shrimp as an appetizer must have been cooked for days before being served--very tough. The mixed grill was excellent tho. Filet, scallops, shrimp and grilled tuna with grilled veges. Everyone in our group was pleased with the quality of their meal. Service was average. Nothing to complain about. Nothing to rave about either. Price per entree was overpriced, beginning around $25 and going up. Wouldn't return here unless with family that insisted.

Our finest meal and dining experience on our recent trip to the Outer Banks. To those that think the prices are ridiculous and the establishment is not kid friendly, great, next time go to McDonalds where you belong. One review also describes it dark and gloomy, anything but. Wonderful ambiance, very relaxing. Service was outstanding as was our entire meal from drinks to dessert. We'll certainly be back.
