Description: Old Nags Head Cafe continues the Roderer family tradition of the great food and Outer Banks North Carolina hospitality we've been offering Nags Head restaurant diners since 1985. Housed in the historic Harris Grocery store on the beach road that served vacationers up until the late 70s, our café's easy-going, beachy atmosphere provides the perfect setting for a gathering of friends or a quiet evening. We like how one of our guests described us, "The restaurant/bar has a very neighborhood feel but is classier than your standard beach seafood shack. Lots of wood paneling and a tasteful amount of local flavor make it a great place for a low key night or casual date." We do strive to make you feel like you're a long-time local, even if it's your first visit, with our friendly servers and easy-going style. That's the way a Nags Head restaurant should be! Complementing our surroundings is a menu that's setting a standard for Nags Head restaurants. Enjoy traditional and contemporary Southern dishes as well as the best in fresh local seafood, chicken, chops, hand-cut Angus beef, pasta, soups, salads, sandwiches, daily specials and homemade desserts. We've been told you can't come to this place without experiencing fried green tomatoes or shrimp and grits! While you're dining, your view is of Nags Head's row of unpainted aristocratic cottages, summer homes that were the first to establish the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a vacation destination. You're also across from the iconic Jockey's Ridge. Old Nags Head Cafe also has a full-service bar with an extensive beer and wine list, and we're happy to accommodate your take-out order.

We had eaten here many times under the old name, so we were anxious to see what changes were made. The food we ate was extraordinary. The portion size of the fried pickles was astronomical, my wife's crabcake sandwich was wonderful and my bbq chicken was juicy and delicious. The waitress was a pure delight, going the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

This place used to be called Jockey's Ribs. We were told that they changed their name because people thought that all they served was ribs. I like their old name better, but what can you do? Their ribs ARE very good. I don't know why people bother ordering half a rack, when a whole rack is just a few dollars more, and you can reheat the leftovers. Yummy!

Only the second review I have ever written but this place is worth the time it takes me to review. We first stopped at Kill Devil Grill where there was an hour wait and called here finding there was no wait. The staff was great - friendly and prompt but the biggie was the food. There were four of us and each had a different dish. The portions were more than adequate and each dish (scallops, shrimp, mahi-mahi) was superior. We usually try different restaurants each night when traveling but had no hesitation about returning here the next night again. And again, each of us had something different and it was again excellent. I don't know why there isn't a line out the door but if in the area, try this place.

Definitely planning to return! Staff sweet as can be, and owner on premise who was also as kind. Good prices, Good food, Good company! High ratings from my husband and I.

Bbq chicken was superb and grilled tuna was excellent. Staff greeted us promptly and were very friendly during our visit. Service was little slow? Only downside was noise level, super high and restaurant was not full. In any case I would return and food was excellent.
