our first trip to the outerbanx. was a brilliant location. right on the beach. yes the room is basic, but it's big and clean. will definitely stay here again. two outdoor pools and one indoor pool and jacuzzi. lots of cafes, restaurants. close to dunes. close to manteo. easy to get to lighthouses. no complaints. was hesitant, but thrilled with our time there. daily maid service as well.

Room Tip: we were on first floor, so dunes hid the ocean, but we didn't have to go up steps. we had towels and pillows with us.

My wife and I have been coming here for 20+ years and at times we feel like we are new comers. We cannot imagine staying any where else in Nags Head. Great location convenient to Manteo, one of our favorite places to go eat and shop. We love the fact that we can see the ocean from one side of the room and sound from the other. Indoor and outdoor pool gives you options. Front desk and maids are outstanding. My wife is particular about a place being clean and she gives the Blue Heron a A+. Only complaint this time was Wi Fi was not consistently working. The owner and front desk immediately addressed.

we cannot wait to return next year.

We read the reviews on Trip Advisor and came prepared with all of our own toiletries, hair dryer, etc. Get a room with a small kitchen if you can for just a few dollars more. There is a 4-burner electric stove, well stocked kitchen (wine glasses, plates, bottle opener, pots/pans, etc), full size refrigerator, full size sink, microwave, and a kitchen table. All in a tiny space, but it's functional. It's great to be able to store and cook our own food, as we've hardly to had to leave the beach. Harris Teeter is 4 miles away. This room is great for 2 people....glad we left the kids behind as it would be really cramped otherwise. The motel staff have been super, and thank you especially to Kathy who walked over to our room to let us know that we could stay a few extra days the minute she had a cancellation. We'll be back next year for sure, and will pass the fancier hotels along the way to the Blue Heron!

Room Tip: 2nd and 3rd floors have ocean view. First floor dunes only (which ain't too shabby). Room #16 had beds that were way to soft, even though the staff said that they were new. We switched to Room #6 on the 1st floor which was perfect.

I've stayed at several mom and pop places on the beaches of NC and this one was the cleanest ever. Great family friendly motel, no riff raff. Nice and quiet, big room, all ocean front rooms with a fabulous view of the ocean sunrise. Yes the rooms are a little out of date but they're really clean and big. Bonus view of the sunsets over the sound from the front porch! They have a lift for your luggage if you need help getting it up to higher floors. The staff is super nice too. Thanks Pam for being so nice!
