Cahoon's Cottages
Reviewed July 1, 2012

When we first arrived, we were rudely told by a woman who works there around 60 with short hair that we didnt sweep the floor from the previous summer
though we remember vacuuming and sweeping it. This seems more like a maids job and isn't listed in the rules that are posted. An older lady with blonde hair told us to come back in 2 hrs but when we came back they told us to wait another hour! When we fianally got the cabin, One room had a pee stain (see the pics) we changed it with spare sheets found in the closet instead of speaking with the rude people.
Next, our son found sand in his bed which leads us to wonder if the sheets were ever changed.
The bathroom had 3 areas of concern. The plunger had waste Material on it and the shower had black mold on it and it never drained well, always keeping an inch around your feet when taking the shower. The shower knob had green mold growing in it (see pic)
Outside on the deck there were several nails sticking up in it, one causing injury to my daughters foot, giving it a good cut.
(see pic) the front door knob looks very strange, not in a good way. (see pics) before we left we looked for the vaccuum, but it was nowhere to be found, so I guess they expect every guest to sweep all of the carpets with a broom before leaving but sleep on filthy beds.
We aren't coming back just for the beautiful view!

my freinds and i have been staying at cahoons for four years now,we always get a cottage because it is right on the ocean, great view, always clean.the staff is very nice and extremely helpful when you need it,we had a problem with the cable on the t.v. and someone came immediately and fixed it,it is a boys weekend and we usually get a little loud, but we have always asked our neighbors in the blue cottage next to ours(we always stay in the yellow one because it is on the end)if we bothered them and it is always the same answer,we didnt here a thing, because we go the weekend after labor day the rates are very reasonable. a great place to stay. p.s. if u stay here you have got to have brekfast at sam and omies across the street.

This is my 4th trip to OBX and second time staying at Cahoon's. Both cottages we stayed in were exceptionally clean. We were in the cottage located nearest the newly rebuilt pier with a wonderful view of the pier and ocean. Our cottage was a 3 bedroom and included mostly everything we needed for the week long stay. We were so conveniently located to the Cahoon's grocery and other markets, shopping was not a problem. I look forward to staying here on any return visits to the area.

Room Tip: Ocean front 3 bedroom cottage has the better view

My friend and I had the three-bedroom, oceanfront cottage (we wanted to get the two-bedroom cottage but it was booked). The cottage was one of the oldest ones we saw in the OBX area but it was absolutely spotless and filled our needs for a relaxing "girls' weekend away." The view from the deck was perfect - we were high enough to see over the dunes and down to the beach, and the cottage itself was just steps away from the ocean.

It's also within walking distance of a grocery store (Cahoon's store) and many decent restaurants.

It was quiet when we were there, but the cottages were pretty close together. I can see how it might get noisy during the busy season, but we were there after Labor Day, so not a lot of tourists.

We selected Cahoon's based on the reviews here .... It was perfect!

When we travel we do not require fancy hotels, room service, etc. We prefer simple and clean and Cahoon's Cottages are perfect! The beach is right out the door and over the sand dune. The elevated deck is perfect for morning coffee as the sun comes up.

We stayed in Cottage #2 which was perfect for 4 adults. Amenities included one bathroom ... full kitchen, microwave and coffee maker, cable television, a spacious front porch and just a few steps to the beach. The store in the front of the complex is excellent, well stocked with a good variety.

I can only imagine that once the new pier is completed near Cahoon's Cottages the experience will only get better.

In our opinion Cahoon's is a perfect launch point for any Outer Banks day trip .... we will be back!

We enjoyed Cahoon's, and yes you can find anything in their little variety store. It is so close to the ocean! We stayed in cottage #7. The only 2 complaints were the noisy frat boys staying in the place next door (not owned by Cahoon's), the places are close together..........my little kids had trouble sleeping with all their partying. Wish people were a little bit more respectful. Also there was no dishsoap or small ammenaties in the cottage that a regular place would stock, and everyother cottage we have stayed at around the country.
No swimming pool, but you do have the ocean just steps away!
We would stay here again and it was great for the price. Loved the store too.

We come to OBX every summer and dread going to Food Lion - especially on Saturday or Sunday - crowds of people and many empty shelves. When we discovered Cahoons store we were charmed and relieved. Would not do major shoping there - still need Food Lion - but when we needed milk or bread, wine or fresh mint, organic greens from a local farmer, a new sweat shirt, bitters for Mojiotos, Cahoons had it all - plus the Sunday New York Time. When you walk in the door, you hear, "Good morning. Can I help you with something?" and it sounds real nice.
