Can't miss spot on your trip to the OBX. You can see the ocean and the sound and hang glide or watch others do it. Great Photo spot.

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable day here with our two small children, ages 7 and 4. It is a steep hick to get to the top of the dune but well worth it. We had a blast flying kites and running around on the dunes. The view from the top is spectacular on both the ocean and sound side.

The dunes are harder to climb that you might think at first. While not terribly high, they can be steep in some parts, and climbing up sand is always a challenge when you keep sinking back down.

Views from the different peaks were great. I wish we could have spent more time up there, but a thunderstorm was rolling in and the high dunes were probably not the best place to be standing. Wish we had time to walk along the nature trail that is adjoining the park.

Hang gliding from the dune was a fun new experience. We didn't have much wind and the direction had us on an unfavorable side of the dune, but we were flying (just not very high). It is kind of like when your feet don't touch in the pool, you are swimming no matter how deep it is.

It is a nice way to spend a few hours with the kids walking up and running down the sand dunes. The kids really seem to have fun there plus it is free. Occasionally a park ranger will come around with water too...nice touch. It is a great place to watch the sunset over the Sound.
