Owner description: Two of the highest sand dunes on the East Coast are located here, providing excellent take-off points for hang gliders.

Had a great time here with my 3 children (7,6,4). Spent several hours walking along the sound and investigating all kinds of sea life and wildlife that we found/saw. Water was 2" for what seemed like 1/4 mile (huge sandbar) and the kids loved being able to go out that far and see bottom. Lots of hang gliders to watch, gorgeous walks through dunes. Wish we had thought to bring chairs or a blanket to sit and stay awhile.

It is a nice place to visit. There are "Hang gliders" flying off of the sand dunes. Beautiful flying over the sound !

When researching for our trip to OBX, Jockey's Ridge was a must for us. We love hiking and knew this would be a unique opportunity. The dunes are beautiful and challenging. There are markers to guide you along your hike to the top. Definitely bring water with you, as you will need it! We visited early morning and avoided the crowds and the heat! The view at the top is worth the work getting there.

Loved my visit to jockey ridge, this will be my one and only sand dune climb, very strenuous to get up to the top-especially in the heat of June. Beautiful views from the top and the sights of hangliding classes. Long walk to and up the dunes then back to visitor building.

We hiked over the dune with our three kids, 11, 9, and 5. We had a great time! The kids had a lot more endurance than I thought because it can get hot on the sand and climbing up and down the dunes takes a lot of strength. The visitors center has a great deal of information about the park and the region packed into such a small area. We'll definitely go back on our next visit to the area.
