Owner description: An interesting and still important lighthouse that can be visited but not climbed. (NOTE: The lighthouse is currently under construction, and is expected to re-open in summer 2013, with the ability to be climbed for the first time)

Stopped to take pictures of this icon which will open this year to the public if you have reservations to go inside. Employees were very informative.

We are lighthouse enthusiasts and love to explore new lighthouses and the history behind them! Bodie Island is GORGEOUS and pristine and quaint and we LOVE the boardwalk to see the sound AND see the lighthouse from another view!

I took a ton of pictures of this lighthouse. We went off-season and could not go up in the lighthouse. Next time we will go when we can go in. There was no construction when we went.

I am pretty sure that this is the easiest lighthouse to get to from Nags Head/Kitty Hawk area.

I drove by here the other day, just to see how things are coming along, as I live nearby. The bright fresh paint is gleaming in the sunlight. I was happy to see the scaffolding is now gone. Looks like there is still some renovations going on but the view is still nice & the walk out the boardwalk is too. I really can't say about inside as I did not attempt to go in. Just wanted to confirm that pictures of the light house are now a possibility again,NO SCAFFOLDING!! Keep your ears open, rumor is that a climb to the top will be possible around April for a fee of $8 ,but check locally to be sure of the cost before you go. It'll be worth every penny to be able to climb the 214 steps of this great lighthouse!!

It's neat to see at least once. Its not something that you have to do more than once. We enjoyed learning the history behind it and taking pictures. It's free! You can not climb it.
