When in Mt. Airy, my wife and I recommend you stop at the visitor's center. It is located on Main St. and the folks that work there are the friendliest you will ever meet. You will get plenty of information about things to do and see in Mt. Airy.

What a wonderful resource for travelers. The visitors center is on the main drag in the center of the city. The women on duty were friendly and helpful. The restroom was spotless with only a little wait. The maps and pamphlets were helpful. It was an oasis of good cheer and helpful info during the very busy Mayberry Days.

She told us about the bluegrass being played at the theatre that night that wasn't on their schedule. The center has a good supply of guides.

Very helpful, and the first place to go when you reach town. You need at two days to explore this quaint little town. Start early in the day as many places close "early," around 3pm. Plan on just spending some quality time walking through downtown. It's really nice! And just a short drive from the highway! If you can, stop for a step back in time!
