Hampton Inn Charlotte / Matthews

I relied on Tripadvisor for a good hotel for a business trip and was not disappointed. One note of caution: Unlike many other major cities, it is much more difficult to get reservations during the week, rather than the weekend. I must have snagged one of the last weekday rooms available and, in fact, the front desk was turning folks away when I walked in the door.

I had experienced a long day cross country and had to make a presentation the next day. Well, the staff greeted all of us with a glass of wine and carried our bags. The service never stopped; it was incredible. The next morning, because we were on California time, we missed breakfast. No problem. The staff furnished us with sack breakfasts that were more than adequate. Cynthia and the rest of the staff are a credit to the hotel business. This is how you hope to be treated. Although our business was in downtown Charlotte, Matthews is a short drive from where we wanted to be. The rooms are small, but nicely appointed and the bathrooms are charming with marble countertops, though only one sink. The window was small so there wasn't enough light if you are staying for more than just a few days, but, best of all, the hotel is very quiet because it is a block off a main highway and must be sound proofed. Each room has a portable bedtop desk that came in very handy. It holds your remote and provides a small writing surface. The cleaning staff works overtime or something because this hotel is spotless.

Charlotte is lush and beautiful so just driving around to appointments is still very pleasant even if you don't have time to sightsee. The Carolina pace is much slower and quite welcome; even the speed limit is between 45 and 55 mph, something this Californian had to keep in mind to avoid a ticket.

I don't know about other Hampton Inns, but this one is a winner.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while in Charlotte on business. The hotel itself was nice. The staff was very helpful. They have a breakfast with bagels, muffins, and danishes. They also offer a breakfast meal that you pop in the microwave. The lobby was nice but when you take the elevator up to any other floor you will notice that the hallways are extreamly hot. I was in room 402 and when I entered my room, it smell a bit like someones body odor. I contacted the front desk on my way out that evening and when I got back, my room was cleaned and refreshend. My A/C also did not do a very good job. The temp in my room stayed about 72 the whole time. Once when I was comming back from dinner, I decided to take the stairs to the 5th floor to visit my co-worker only to find that the handle on the stairwell door leading to the 5th floor was broken. I had to go back down to the 4th floor and walk to the middle of the hotel to catch the elevator up. Overall the staff was friendly and the lobbly was nice, but there were a few problems with other things around the hotel.

Perfectly good hotel, swimming pool, nice breakfast with very friendly service. For a longer stay has free washer/dryer.

Rooms are reasonably big, and well kept. It's a Hampton so it's not overflowing with frills. But otherwise not a single complaint. This was our third stay here.

When I arrived at the Hampton, I was tired from a long trip. The first thing I saw was a long line checking in, looked liked a bus had just gotten there. It was about 5 PM. I thought let me get out of here, but someone from the Hampton must have read my mind, they got hold of me and offered me some food and a drink. They said it was the manager's reception and by the time I finished the check in would clear. They also asked me if I was a Hilton's honor, if so I could just pick up my key and go straight to the room. I was not, but I am now. I grabbed a slice of pizza and a coke and in a couple of minutes I was ready for check in. The front desk person was gracious and within 5 minutes from the time I had arrived I was in my room. The room was spacious, clean, the light was on, the room was pleasantly cooled and I was ready to hit the shower and the bed. I highly recommend this hotel. Everyone is anxious to please and it was so quiet, I slept like a baby. I will always stay here. It is just 5 miles from downtown Charlotte, so I will stay here even though my business is downtown Charlotte
