“Worst ski area in North Carolina, maybe the east coast”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Recently went to Wolf and sadly the best part of the visit was the fireplace in the lodge. The slopes lacked coherent grooming, like skiing over frozen marbles. Like most tiny ski areas in the south they have an interesting way of counting trails. the place looks like it was clearcut a few years ago and has odd wooden walls defining trails - which leads to extremely icy areas when coupled with the poor grooming. The lighting on the slopes was poor, often causing you to go thru dark areas on trails. Staff was "odd" at best, they were nice, but it was hard to tell who worked there and who was just their friends hanging out in the lodge. I'm sure with the right management this place could be good, maybe a person or 2 that actually cares about slope conditions and lighting - Until then stay away - plenty of better options in NC.

“Great Snow Tubing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

We recently went snow tubing at Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. We went to the new tubing area near I-26, with the magic carpet. It was great, my son loved it, and we returned for a 2nd time during our stay in Asheville. The employees are very nice and helpful. What is nice is that you are not tied into a specific time slot, they let you start when you arrive and write your end time on your ticket. Parking is near the slope, the bathrooms were clean, and snacks are available for purchase. We arrived early in the day and it was not crowded and we had a great time. Highly recommend for snow tubing!

“First time skiing for the kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

Our kids had never been skiing or tubing, and the area had gotten their first solid snowfall of the season, which made it idea for our beginners. There are two tubing lanes, one right of the highway. Didn't look like much, but according to the locals I talked with at the ski lodge--the one right off the high way was the best of the two. There is another tubing area mid way up the mountain. And by the time we wound our way up the mountain, through a gated community, etc...we decided to skip tubing and ski. Three skied=$175 for lift, ski and boot rentals. Staff was friendly. Found check in system a little confusing. Pay at the front booth...$10 to rent a locker..if you bring back your receipt, you get $5 back. Very laid back staff, so if your in a hurry, your gonna need to relax. Great ski for first timers, lodge was small and a little dated, but fire places fantastic. Just go to have fun and you'll be fine. Thought they did a good job for an "opening weekend".

“Small ski area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

It is a small area and has a tendency to get icy. So if the mountain is crowded it makes getting down the mountain a challenge.

“Winter Fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

The Wolf has awesome views, is about 45 minutes into Asheville, has hiking on the Appalachian Trail and is as good as skiing in the southeastern part of the US gets (the 4 stars are because this area doesn't compare to the skiing in, say, Idaho).
