On our many trips to Maggie Valley, we've tried BBQ in more than one venue, but we keep coming back to the BBQ Shak and can attest to consistently good food and service over the past half dozen years or so.
The barbecue is as good as it gets, and the service is friendly. The dining room is decorated with clever pig themes which create a pleasant atmosphere. The woman who owns and runs the place seems to always be on hand to serve her customers no matter what time of day you choose to dine. Not only that, if you strike up a conversation with her this year, she'll remember you next year when you return.
We've tried the pulled pork and the ribs, both of which were excellent. Each dinner comes with not one, but four side orders: beans, cole slaw, hush puppies, and fries. This is in stark contrast to another bbq place at the other end of the valley which charges extra for anything more than one side order.
The restaurant is located at the upper end of Maggie Valley, not too far from the entrance to Ghost Town in the Sky.
