“It left us speechless! Wow! What a great choice this was!”
Reviewed October 24, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We had been planning a trip to the Smoky Mtn NP and wanted a place to stay for a week. Using VRBO we found Smoky Sunrise and from all that we saw it seemed to be the place we wanted. High on a mountain, beautiful views, a residence with all the amenities an outdoor hot tub with a gorgeous view at night. And easily accessible to town and restaurants and tourist attractions. We also wanted peace and quiet.

Smoky Sunrise was all this and more. I can't even adequately describe how overwhelmed we were with the place. We had for want of nothing while we were there. Everything was provided except for our food. The place was clean and spacious. The beds were super comfortable and the bathrooms (3) were clean and modern. It was deafly quiet and the views of the valley and mountains took our breath away every time we stepped out on the deck. Autumn colors were just beginning to peak.

Truth be told it is a bit of a challenge to get up the mountain to the house. But the road was maintained by someone with a grader who smoothed every bump and pothole after we arrived. So we travelled everyday up and down the Mountain. Exactly a ten minute drive start to finish and it wasn't too bad. One needs 4WD/AWD and very good brakes.

Would we recommend Smoky Sunrise to someone? You bet we would!!!!

“Wonderful vacation cabin with spectacular views.”

This wonderful vacation cabin has it all. It's in a very convenient location, has awesome views, is secluded enough to feel like you're really getting away, yet close enough to town whereby you don't mind dropping everything and driving in to the store to pick up something that was forgotten. The ease of the fireplace operation was a huge plus. The gas grill and outdoor furniture made it so easy to enjoy a meal out-of-doors. The hot tub was an extra bonus after a long day of hiking in the surrounding mountains. The cabin provided a great deal of serenity and our time thee was very peaceful and relaxing!

We have start this review discussing the road! It is indeed a steep, treacherous assent. My husband and I drove a Prius and once we arrived we never took a chance to drive back down the mountain. Our friends arrived in a Ford Edge and we only used their car. That limited our ability to explore separately. We joked that if you make a martini before you leave the house it will be well shaken by the time you end up on the main road. It is that bumpy of a ride!
Otherwise the views are amazing, we loved our morning coffee watching the sunrise and our evenings in the hot tub. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. If you are looking for privacy with another couple, beware the second bedroom in a loft without privacy. Overall I would recommend this property as long as you are aware of the few issues we mentioned. It is beautiful country and a true mountain getaway. I love watching the changing scenery every hour, the sky changes hourly and the views of the mountains are incredible.

We try to ensure that people are aware of the road before they rent so that there are no surprises. Its condition is somewhat variable due to usage and weather, but it is not paved and is always advisable to expect somewhat of an adventure. The good news is that the road is one mile in total and only the first third is rough.
I was a bit surprised at the comment about the loft bedroom. It has walls and a door but does have a large window with a curtain. It could be more private if it did not have the window, but then it would not have the incredible view. Perhaps the fact that it is a loft also gave the feeling of a lack of privacy, but this is a real log home and a loft is a loft.
We sincerely thank our tenants for their feed back and hope that it provides a little more information for those considering renting our home.

“Smoky Sunrises and Sunsets Can't Be Beat!”

This cabin is much more than you can believe....it's a home away from home! The sunrise and sunset views from the deck left us in awe. This home is beautifully decorated and filled with every possible amenity you could need. We loved the location and the feeling of being on top of the world. It's secluded and quiet, and the sounds of the woods sang us to sleep every night.

The drive up and down the mountain isn't for the faint of heart, but we had no problems. We took both routes and actually preferred the "short cut". The only traffic we encountered were the elk, who seemed in no hurry to go anywhere!

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again...in fact, we're already planning our next trip to this beautiful area!

“AGONY AND ECSTACY”
Reviewed June 29, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

My wife and I rented this place as a 50th anniversary getaway expecting a great time of hiking and exploring. Having been a frequent visitor to the Smoky's all my life I knew some vacation cabins are located very high up with spectacular views. But getting to them could be a unique experience. This one falls into that category.
We arrived late May on a pleasant drive through Maggie Valley which is a great place to visit in itself. We continued past for a couple of miles to our designated turn and at first the road was well paved and very scenic. The next turn however was a gravel road which quickly got steeper and steeper. Now I have explored the Smoky's back trails including fire roads which are usually unpaved and steep but I have to say none were like this. Hairpin turns, bumpy and loose gravel. There were a couple of times I had to go so slow the wheels started to spin because the gravel was so loose and the road so steep. The drive up was daunting to say the least.
We arrived at almost 4800 feet to a spectacular view of the valley below. The home was just as spectacular with a full glass wall to be able to take advantage of natures glory. The home was very well complimented and had plenty of room for a large family. There was everything imaginable for your convenience so there was no need to bring anything except food.
The cabin has a hot tub which was one of the first things we took advantage of except the view of course. The wifi, TV and telephone were all easy to use and there was even a printer as well. Everything worked, the, place was clean and comfortable.
There were a few neighbors below and above but due to the trees you really had to look to see them.
However, the drive up and the distance to any facilities was a little more than my wife and I wanted to endure so we cancelled our stay and chose to stay at a motel down in Maggie Valley. The drive up to the place was navigable and other than some wheels spinning in loose gravel we made it okay but to do that two or more times a day was more than we wanted.
The owner was most gracious and even refunded part of our money which was NOT expected. The description stated four wheel drive mandatory in winter and although not mandated for summer is recommended. That should tell you something about the road, but if it were more compacted my Camry would have been fine. It was every other road I explored this trip and some were pretty scary.
I have a video of the drive DOWN the mountain if anyone wants to see it.
