“Friendly . . . more work and less storytelling might help”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

Stayed there with a group of motorcyclists riding the Blue Ridge, very convenient and while the owner was friendly and told great stories about the property and its history he should be spending more time cleaning the rooms and refurbishing the quarters. Our room was moldy, dirty, and we slept on a bed that you could feel the springs coming through - - - the air conditioner was not up to the task and its constant cycling would wake you up when the compressor kicked in. You need a good nights rest to ride the Blue Ridge enjoyably and this is not the place to stay for that. The location is excellent, the view spectacular, but the Hotel needs a lot of help. Stop for a cold drink perhaps on the way down the parkway but stay somewhere else.

Sorry you weren't happy with your room. We go to great lengths to ensure all our rooms are thoroughly cleaned and ready for occupancy each day. The room you were in had been cleaned thoroughly the day you arrived and occupied 20 of the last 30 days with no complaints. If you found something not right maybe you should have asked me to look into it instead of asking me for a tour and the history of the Skyline. When you ask for the history I don't have an Ovaltine decoder ring that indicates you really mean you have a problem with your room. By the way there was no mold in your room. I'm allergic to the stuff so I can find it pretty easily even if it is not in sight. That's one of the reasons we removed all the carpeting in the building and refinished the hardwood floors. You should address your problems directly for best results. Next time you take the Harley in for its regularly scheduled rear view mirror adjustment try to remember that and get a pair. Thanks for the input, Paula.

We wanted a view and we wanted simple good food and we stumbled upon this little gem. Now their menu is literally burgers, a pizza, lasagna, salad, and I think that's about it. They have an extensive beer selection. The owners are fun and friendly with a couple really cute dogs. They will sit and eat with you which is neat. It seems like they want everyone to just have fun and relax and treated everyone like neighborhood friends. Now the food, it was unremarkable but I don't think you come here to be blown away. It's fine, it is what it is, they aren't gourmet, they are a good little tavern with a great view with outside seating. Sit down, have a couple beers and a burger with good people and you'll just find yourself relaxing. They did make an excellent squash salad though as a side dish, they don't always have it but it's good.

We didn't stay there so I can't comment on the inside of the Inn. From the outside it looks rundown but I heard the owner say a couple times that they don't charge much either so it's a trade off. It is right on the road of a blind curve so be careful with kids. Convenient to the parkway though, it's like a quarter mile at best to the parkway.

I first visited this hotel in the 80's when my children and I vacationed in the area every year. Since then it has changed owners and been remodeled. The rooms are clean, pretty and quite comfortable. The entire village is filled with a rich history of moonshining and fantastic tales of mountain legends and life. They do have a liquor license and a good bar. They offer events such as murder Mystery Dinners, a Beer lovers club each week where you can try new brews, as well as live music, dinner on the outside patio balcony.
On a recent stay I met Innkeepers Mike & Lynn Thrift. Terrific Hosts! They made us feel so comfortable that we just had to go online & reecommend the place to our friends. We will be coming back!

Room Tip: 2nd floor front has the best views

Great place in the mountains, just off Blue Ridge Parkway. I've stayed there approximately 5 times. Mike makes you feel at home. You check in on the first floor and park around back and come in on the third floor. You can sit out on the balcony and look at the mountains. Has a motorcycle shed and place to wash your cycle. There is a great supply of adult beverages on hand. And in these mountains there is a Walmart close by.

This hotel is located very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, with a great view from the balcony. The bathroom was clean, so were the linens. Downside: the walls are a little on the thin side, we could hear what the guy in the room across from ours was saying, and he was not shouting. We had dinner downstairs and we did not particularly enjoy it. Mike explained they were just getting started in the season and he had a big event planned for the weekend so he had not been able to stock the kitchen yet. We believed him and I think the other reviews confirm it. He more than made up for it with his friendly way and the information he gave us about North Carolina and many other things. Breakfast was good.

...but you should expect clean, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, good food and amazing views!! Dinner our night there was all house made and they even had a band. Their location right off the parkway was easy to find and had the amazing views that we had seen all day on the Parkway. We had such a nice, relaxing time and can't wait to go back - thanks to everyone at the Skyline Village Inn!

Stayed here with my teenage daughter on the way to DC. Place is full of history, owners are full of kindness. Could not ask for a better time. You can spend more money somewhere else if you're not an especially social person, but for us, this was a perfect fit. Great stories, great people, great dogs, great breakfast. HIGHLY recommended for those who like truly good beer; come on Wednesday night for an even bigger selection. I will definitely be staying here again. I left DC early and came back here and felt like I was coming home. You just can't ask for more than that.

Room Tip: The view from the balcony is amazing.
