Went to FF mountains in mid-July for 3 nights -- left one day early due to the lousy home we rented. It was on the web-site as "just added" or something like that -- so I'm thinking this may be a brand new property. It wasn't.

The home was probably 20-25 y/o and the bed sheets were probably that old as well.

The home had been lived in by an elderly couple which was apparent by the furniture, kitchen and bathroom fixtures.

It was not meant for a family with 4 active boys ages 5-15. I fault the FFM management people for not checking this place better.

FFM pool and mini-golf was very nice -- we had a wonderful afternoon round of golf on the Apple Valley GC.

Had we stayed in a more up-to-date property, our short vacation would have much better.

Stayed: July 2005

let me first say i really enjoyed my stay! you have to understand you are not near anything..my condo was in fox den which was 1.5 miles from the nearest pool, golf course, and restaurant.. this was different than my other fairfield resort stays where everything was within walking distance. golf courses were nice, apple valley VERY NICE...views of lake and mountains were very nice also.. i would recomend this place but be prepared to stay and enjoy the resort,,,asheville may only be 30 miles away but it is 1.15 hour drive..

This was our 3rd trip to Fairfield Mountains and even though it rained almost every day, we had a great time. It gave my husband and I a chance to unwind, play a little golf, take a few leisurely walks, and just enjoy being in the Mountains. Our 12 yr old son enjoyed the mini-golf and kids' programs.

I have been to Fairfield Mtns resort many (at least a dozen) times. If you are looking for a nice place to simply relax or get together with family or friends this is the place. If you are looking for frills, and other fancy things this is not! This is where the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed.

Once you get off the highway you have to follow the signs really really closely. Bring your Dramamine if you easily get car sick. Lots of winding turns and hills. Gorgeous scenery.

Fairfield Mtns resort has various types of villas to rent. All close to the golf courses. Nothing fancy, just simple and plain. The restaurants are all local. No food chains anywhere whatsoever. The folks are wonderful and very friendly. Expect to wait at times- this place takes things slow. This was hard for me at first since I live in fast paced Chicago. Some restaurants only seat 30 tables - you can get an idea of how back woods this place is.

The resort also has an activity center, small rooms with ping pong, games, indoor pool, and work out room. You can rent movies there too.
Some golf courses do not allow you to walk the course, you have to rent the carts. The hills are too much for walkers, believe me.

On weekends in the summer they have cookouts on the lake, music at the beach too.

Alot of folks live at this resort. Please when you do visit try not to litter or destroy anything. These folks belong to many committees who try to keep things up. Also, dont try to blare music all around the joint ...they have security there which patrols the places every hour on the hour.

How do I know? My friends have rented here at Fairfield--- and I have relatives who live there.
