“Perfect weekend getaway!”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

My husband and I stayed in the Tall Oaks cabin for a 3-night stay. Proprietors Steve and Linda emailed directions shortly after we made our reservation. The office was very easy to find. Upon our arrival, Steve provided us with a map and lots of helpful information about the area attractions and restaurants. The Tall Oaks cabin was very clean, beds were quite comfortable, and we had a beautiful view from our back patio. We enjoyed breakfast (of coffee, delicious breads, and fresh eggs provided by Steve & Linda) each morning. From the cabin, we had a short drive to Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure Marina, restaurants, and shopping. Cell phone reception was limited in the entire Lake Lure area, making it that much easier to disconnect from our busy lives.

In summary, the Arbor Cabins are perfect for a weekend getaway. Steve & Linda were very hospitable and provided excellent customer service. If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax, and take in nature, this is the perfect place!

My husband and I simply adore these cabins. We visit this area 5 to 6 times a year for just about every birthday, 4th of July, vacation, etc. In the past, we tried every place thinkable in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, enjoying them all, but nothing compares to The Arbor.
The Arbor Cabins and Cottage are the most comfortable because they have such a cozy, home like feel (but with alot of added extras). This is the most welcoming place we have ever experinced. The coffee, cider, homemade bakery items are simply a wonderful treat awaiting for us when we settle in. The hot tub with robes is my favorite part, along with the beautiful grounds that are always decorated for the season. The bed and bedding beats any 4 star hotel. Just about anything you would need is furnished in each cabin and cottage, but if there is anything extra needed, Linda and Steve are willing to accomodate.
This is most certainly the one and only place we recommend for anyone looking for the cleaniest, bug free cabin/cottage in a wooded setting.

We love the Arbor at Lake Lure. What a magnificent time we had, from the moment we arrived we felt so welcome and we were instantly swept away by the beautiful landscape. The cabin was everything we had hoped for to set the scene for a romantic mountain honeymoon. It was just perfect! The cabin had everything we needed and more. The hot tub under the stars was so nice and with the cool evenings it was so enjoyable. When we arrived, Steve gave us all sorts of information about the area so that we would be able to explore with some basic knowledge. We spent time hiking to Chimney Rock, exploring the towns, climbing on the river rocks, and riding our bikes (we brought them) all over the place. We love the outdoors and did a lot of exploring by car, bike, and on foot. It was so magical to hike all morning and then come back to the cabin and have lunch and wine on the porch. We ate our last breakfast, with those amazing fresh eggs, outside in the common picnic area and we really did not want to leave. While there, we meet a lovely young couple who had just gotten engaged. It is a truly romantic hideaway. We will be back.

Room Tip: All great!

For our 20th anniversary my husband and I made a last minute decision to travel to Lake Lure for an overnight stay. Friends of yours who frequent the area raved about this great little hideaway. From the moment we arrived at our cabin we were sure we would return again and again. The cabins were very clean and cozy, the hottub was very private, they even stocked breakfast goodies in the kitchen for us. The innkeeper, Stephanie was very helpful with all the must see's and the best places to dine. We had an very relaxing and romantic stay at the Arbor and we certainly can't wait to visit again!

We were looking forward to a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend near Chimney Rock and thought The Arbor on Lake Lure was the place to stay. When I called to make the reservation I was informed there was only 1 cabin available (The Magnolia) for the 2 night stay (Fri-Sat). Upon arrival and when talking to Steve, he stated we were the only ones there Friday night. Funny if the place was booked for the weekend! Then after spending Saturday hiking at Chimney Rock, upon returning to our cabin that evening we discovered mice feces throughout the cabin on the floor in the bathroom and sleeping area in the corners. There were ants and other large bugs ( I can't even name because I'm not sure what they were) on the kitchen counter tops as well. We thought the mice feces might be old and the issue had been addressed and just not cleaned up. But when we woke Sunday morning, it was very apparent that was not the case. Feces were everywhere, mostly in the kitchen on the counter tops. Thank goodness we stored our food in microwave and refrigerator!...We ended our weekend a very early Sunday morning because of our findings that morning, which made the weekend a little disappointing since it was $199 a night to stay! Steve did mention business has been slow, so now I'm wondering if the issues we encountered during our stay, is just one of the reasons why. I did leave a note for them stating the issues we encountered, and there were others, and as yet, I've not received a return response. I'm thinking I'm not going to get one either based on prior comments here. I have to admit that I typically check here for reviews and comments, and this time I did not. It was a spur of the moment decision to go. I certainly will not make that mistake again!

Oh how we regret you had a mouse in your cabin. Had it been us, we probably would have contacted the owner/manager, or left immediately.

We can assure you the droppings were fresh, not that it makes much difference now. And we certainly immediately addressed the problem.

As The Arbor is situated in the woods, we engage the services of an exterminator just for that reason. In the nearly eleven years of operation, we've experience a mouse/mole only two other times. Again, we regret the intrusion. We were told it was a field mouse looking for water, but a mouse is a mouse is a mouse.

At the time of your stay, The Arbor had been booked for your dates by four couples that often visit here together. Unfortunately one of them had just broken his leg, and they all decided to re-schedule at the last minute.

We did find your note. It didn't mention any bugs, and we looked everywhere. We did find a moth and a little shell-backed flying bug that probably came in thru the front door.

Again, we so regret you did not have the experience we work so hard to provide our guests. We welcome the opportunity to show you the true "Arbor Difference".

We have made several trips to Lake Lure over the past 10 years and will never stay anywhere but the Arbor at Lake Lure! The cabins are absolutely fantastic and we love all of the extras - hot tub, kitchen, breakfast items readily available in case you want to sleep in : ) And I can't say enough about the proprietors!!! Steve & Linda treat you like family and have been known to go above & beyond the "call of duty" to make sure that you thoroughly enjoy your stay with them! We love the Arbor and highly recommend it to anyone - my brother & sister-in-law will be staying with them for the first time this coming weekend. I'm jealous, but I know they will thoroughly enjoy themselves if the owners have anything to say about it!!

Cabins were small but adequate, goodies were nice addition. privacy a must. problem for me began when you arrive, owner gets you to sign a paper which relinquishes him from any damage done to your property, this should of been a warning signal. the parking lot consists of a few cars parked closely together under these massive hickory nut trees. these trees dropped huge nuts on our car and also other guests vehicles, we had counted over 75 dents in our car and the other tenents car was totally covered in dents. our damage estimated at 1000.00. when i approached the owner, i was told that the post office owned the trees and that was there problem not his. and that we also signed a paper relinquishing him responsible for any personal damages, wonder where that came from... we evidently werent the first ones to have their car momicked. as for the other tenents i felt very sorry for them, their car looked as if it had been hit by ping pong ball at 100 miles an hour, so i for one would not stay there again, and i have damage report to prove it. if you do you better park across the road, and theres really no where to sit except 2 rockers by the bed, if want a couch , you better go somewhere else. only one person kitchen. if you value your vehicle (beware)
