This is an adult property that does not allow children or pets, and only has 5 or 6 rooms for rental. It's on the beach, kind of. There are three levels of the property. The first floor is parking, exercise room and storage (garage parking for the owners). The second floor contains the guest rooms. The third floor is where the owners live. We have stayed here 3 times. The first time was fabulous. We told everyone how great it was, and not a bad price in the off season. The second time was good, and the third time was ok. The highlight of the stay is the daily breakfast/goodie basket left the evening before, and the turn down service, if you aren't there. You walk back into a room with music quietly playing, dim lights, the bed turned down - an atmosphere for romance. The amenities in the room are really nice, and well thought out. The trade off has been with each visit we have had more problems w/ those living there than other guests. You can hear their television, their phone ringing, their conversations depending on the room they are in, their alarm clock going off far earlier than we want to get up, their garage door opening and closing, them walking across the floor, cabinets closing, closets closing, drawers closing. All of this - and they are upstairs - not next door. We went out for dinner and come back to no parking, as there are only enough allotted spaces for guests and the entry to the garage. So we had to straddle the front and side street (watch out for NO PARKING signs), only to find out our space was taken by someone visiting the owners, and left late that night. Heard that too. The pix they posted aren't exact, and some digital liberty was taken with them. It's surrounded by small older beach houses that are mostly rentals. They also don't inform you of how to get access to your room since they closed the hotel property where you used to check in at. I appreciate the fact that the owners can be on hand in the event of an emergency, and keep an eye out for the property. But each time we had a problem - it wasn't with another guest. And they didn't seem overly concerned about it at all. So we aren't going back.

I stayed here in March of 2000 for my honeymoon. Even though it rained the whole 3 days we where there, we still had a wonderful time. The rooms where very clean and the view was beautiful. It was very quiet and peaceful.
The tub was very roomy and relaxing. The room service was an added plus. I am looking forward to returning in a couple of months in order to celebrate my 5th wedding anniversary.

The rooms were everything promised. The bed and bath as well as furnishings were wonderful. However, a reservation request on inns online promising a $25 gift certificate with a confirmed reservation was never responded too. A $10 online coupon was never honored. The satellite cable tv was a major problem as well as the batteries in the remote. Mr. Darling was very welcoming and friendly. Mrs. Darling treated us like we were unwelcome intruders in her home. Information provided in the room stated you could open the sliding glass doors provided the air conditioning was turned off which we did to subsequently get screamed at as the white mercedes was pulling away to close the door the air conditioning was on without being able to respond that we had turned it off. Don't be fooled by the pictures of the inn showing a secluded location. It was completely surrounded by hotels and rental properties. Being told the beach was very secluded and quiet and private property we found it to be crowded as it was on a public beach access with many other public accesses nearby. The only other glitch was information stating that a blue bottle of mineral oil was provided which was not. The basket of food brought by every evening by a very sweet girl with the turn down service was amazing. Muffins, juice, biscotti, coffee, fruit, candy and many other items too numerous to name. I mentioned that the chocolate biscotti was especially good and Erin asked if I would like extra. The beds were turned down every night; however, sheets were not changed daily. Their was a rust colored stain on the bottom sheet at the top that could be seen when turned down. That is how we know they were never changed during our stay. Beach towels were provided that were never mentioned which was a added plus but also were not replaced. Nicest place to stay in the area. The closest place that would rate not as good but exceptional being the Waterway Lodge at Wrightsville which has the distinction of not being on the beach. Rates a little steep for the area. This place would be much more suited to the Litchfield Beach/Pawley's Island area rather than such a public location.

We speant one Autumn night, 2002 at Darlings By The Sea and was very impressed with the amenities! I only wish we had been able to stay longer, but we were in the area on business and could only manage an overnight trip at the beach. The weather was cold and rainy, but our room was a luxurious oceanfront and nothing like a typical hotel room!
We felt pampered from the moment we arrived until the minute we left!
Fantastic basket of breakfast goodies was delivered to our room upon our arrival for the following morning. Whirlpool tub huge enough for two and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in ANYWHERE! I like children, but it was super nice to stay at a place where they aren't allowed (sorry, kids)! Would love to go again one day!!!!!
