We stayed at the Southwinds for only 1 night and we are so glad that was all. We were charged $158 for one night and it was horrible. The room had a smell, the carpets were filthy, leaking air conditioners, front door barely locked, just a really run down motel. We will never recommend this place to anyone. Total ripoff!

I paid $162.72 for one night, I heard this was a nice motel. Since I was in the office for the Admiral's Quarters Motel I thought this would be where i would be staying. Wrong! instead I was put in room 400 at South Winds Motor Inn next door. The room did have a smell, but went away after a bit. The lights went from bright to dim the whole time. Carpet was not the cleanest, but at the beach carpet normally has a different feel. Beds were in need of replacement. Bathroom fan sounded like it was about to break as it had a LOUD sound coming from it. The nice part was the outside, it had rocking chairs. I will not stay here again for the price was way too high for that room.

Just read another review from 2004 on this site, and it's really sad that two years later, the same stuff is going on. This "hotel" should be condemned. Our room was awful. It smelled, there was duct tape around the A/C unit, water damage on the paneling and wall, paint was flaking off on the door frames, the entire building looked nasty. The pools were so filthy, I never saw them cleaned the weekend we were there. The water looked brown... the pools either need a severe bleaching and cleaning, or complete replacement. I have never been scared to get in a pool until this. Bird feathers floating around, UGH !!!! Carpet in our room was beyond nasty, you walk across it and your feet turn black. Had to spray the beds and bedding, apparently there were bedbugs as well. I will never waste my money staying in this dump again, a very miserable experience.
Had to pay for ice, 25 cents each time. Only one working washer/dryer for all THREE motels. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially with a family. Awful expereience. Save yourself the trouble, and don't stay here !!!!!

We just returned from a weeks vacation at SouthWinds Motel. We've been staying there forever. We were very disappointed in the way the motel has gone down hill. First, the office had been moved to another hotel, which meant, no one to keep an eye on the stuff that was happening around the motel (kids hanging off the balancy, yelling profanity at the young women and girls as they passed back and forth to the pools), the maid service was horrible, we never got our room service until after 3:30, which meant, no clean towels. They never serviced the bathrooms, unless asked too, leaving no toliet paper, or soap. We would have to catch up with them and ask for it. Also, our bed was never changed. We have always loved the family atmosphere, but with drunk, underage kids, roaming around all night, we were very cautious about letting the girls go out alone to sit on the balancy, even though we were right there. The so called security officer was never seen the whole time, which really mad me feel uncomfortable. The refrigerator leaked water the whole time and the room smelt of mildew. I ended up going and buying lysol to spray the room. There was mold growing on the side of the cabinet in the bathroom. The pools at the hotel were so dirty, the whole topic at the swimming pool was based on all three hotels and how down hill they have all went. Even other guest were commenting on the dirtyness, while writing their names on the sides of the pool in the scum that hadn't been cleaned. Needless to say, we tried to make the best of a bad situation, but have already decided not to stay there any longer. It's pretty bad when you have to clean a room before you can even feel like unpacking. Its a bad feeling when you spend money to stay in a place and actually feel like you've been ripped off.
