We stayed 2 nights at the end of April, trying to get some good R&R. First, the motels location is great. It is ocean front and very close to Kure Beach Pier. We could actually walk through the back parking lot to get to it. They also have a private walkway down to the beach itself. They have plenty of parking too. Introduced this year was wifi, which is a big plus if you are vacationing with teenagers like me! The room was spacious and clean. I liked that it didn't have carpet (most beach motels that do make your feet black... Not sure what that's about.) We stayed on the first floor and had a lil "balcony" outside the sliding glass door with 2 rocking chairs. Perfect for watching the sunrise. They also have a nice size outdoor pool. We didn't use it because it was still quite chilly out. It appeared clean and well maintained. We didn't have much interaction with the staff because we didn't need to! The front desk clerk was very friendly, and the room was cleaned while we were gone. We are definitely making this "our motel" and will stay here every time we travel to Kure Beach.

We like to go to Kure Beach for the small town feel, and have stayed at several of the hotels here. This was our first stay at South Wind, and we enjoyed it.

The location is the best benefit of staying here; it is right next to the pier and downtown Kure with the restaurants, the new Town Park, etc. Great location in town and extremely convenient. The owners were very pleasant and always helpful and there was ample parking, even over the holiday weekend. The room was basically what we expected.

On the down side, our beds and pillows were a little uncomfortable and lacking. The housekeeping was also almost non-existent, but I know that they were short-handed on one day over the weekend and of course, full over the entire holiday weekend. Neither the beds nor the lack of housekeeping dampened our stay; we enjoyed our stay and will be back.

My wife and I decided to stay at the South Wind Motel this year for our vacation. Upon arrival we found the motel staff friendly and professional. Our room was very clean with a nice view of the ocean, which was only a few yards away making the walk to and from the beach very convenient. There is also a wonderful pier, gift shops and restaurants within walking distance, as well as a beach front park that features porch swings that face the ocean. If you don't like to drive, this place is for you. I also enjoyed the pool which was well maintained. The maid service was great, responding quickly to our requests. Highly recommended!

My family and I stayed several days at the Southwind motel in Curry Beach. The rooms were sparking clean and the ocean was beautiful. The two ladies cleaning the rooms worked like crazy the whole time we were there, but always stopped to give us a hand or directions to restaurants when we asked. They were kind and gracious at all times. We wanted to leave a tip for them in our room, but there weren't any tip envelopes in the room. We even looked behind the furniture to see if it had fallen, but we couldn't find one. We didn't feel comfortable just leaving money on the dresser or giving it to the lady at the front desk, so we didn't leave anything. We felt bad. Next time we come, we will make sure to find the ladies that cleaned our room and helped us out and give them a tip. They work so hard, they certainly deserve it. Thank you, Southwind!

Room Tip: The ocean rooms are the best.

This is one of those places that I like to return to again and again. I have been coming to the South Wind for several yers, and I have never been disappointed. The facilities are consistently in good repair, complete with hurricane boards handy(they are custom fitted for the windows and doors), Yes, the windows may look dirty, but as in many places that are ocean front, They get etchen with the wind and sand being blown about. The rooms are clean, and the workers are so nice and knowledgeable about the areas. I like that you can walk or ride your scooter( if disabled) to every reataurant in Kure Beach, and to the pier, too! In fact, you can't get closer to the pier. If ad when you want more things going on, Carolina Beach is 5-10 minutes away, Fort Fisher and the State Aquarium are 10 min. in the other direction, and South Port is a nice ferry boat ride away, Wilmington is 20minutes away, and Myrtle Beach is about an hour or less away. What this place has that those places don't is quiet, and relaxation! Do not expect a fitness room, That is why you walk on the beach! The restaurants are nest door, across the street, and accross the corner!

Room Tip: As a handicap person, if I am having a not so good day, my ocean front room is good, so that I ca...

Overall a good spot, but those BEDS...ughh. Feels like your sleeping on 2 boxsprings :( Location is great. Kitchenette is nice. Courteous and helpful staff. Just bring an extra comforter to pad the beds. That's what I'll do if I come back :)

Room Tip: Don't really need to get an oceanfront room...side view rooms still get a view. Oceanfront prov...

Rates are very resonable.Location is perfect. You don't have ride around hunting a parking space to go to get some good eat's and the pier.Staff is very friendly, like family.Have a problem?Let them know and they will do their best to resolve it.Read bad reviews about a little sand on the floor.Yes,there was,but it was what we dragged in and the staff vacuamed it up when they did their daily cleaning. They are not just at the beach, they are on the beach.Get real!Yes,it is an older motel but very well kept up.If you want a friendly, good clean beach vacation, this is it.If you need and want big city type luxuary,go to the Hampton or the Marriott.I've just booked five day's in May and it's my grandson's first beach trip and I can't think of better place for him to have his first beach experience than at the South Winds.

Room Tip: Call well ahead for more available room's to choose from
