Bring your camera - loved the natural landscape. Worth stopping on your way to the Aquarium or just for an outing.

“The Hidden Gem for Military Folk who wish to Camp”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

Fort Fisher Recreation Area is a great RV/Camping/Tent location for Military, Dependents, Retired. Kure Beach area is a hidden gem a very short, easy walk from Fort Fisher Recreation Area across the street. The Military is redoing the cabins which need help in a huge way. BUT I can write about our experience here. Travel Trailer Hook up worked great. We stayed towards the back area at area 9 and 10 with a lot of afternoon shade. Perfect for NC hot weather.
The Tent area is nicely shaded and everyone appeared to have a wonderful time.
The Reservation staff is so polite and kind. They have a small store to pick up necessities, cold beer, drinks and ice. There is a Food Lion, maybe 5-10minutes towards town (make a left going out), Walgreens, Cvs also close by.
You can rent golf carts at 20.00 a day and it is well worth it. Take a drive around the location to see many deer we found is peaceful. There is a pier for fishing and many folks fished off the dock.
The beach itself "Kure Beach" is the best kept secrete in the area. Beautiful ocean water reminded me of the Caribbean. We also toured 2 museums in the area , One of Fort Fisher and a Civil War Museum maybe 1 mile away gong RT out of Fort Fisher.
Reservations are hard to get in the summer and you will find out why.........EVERYONE wants to be there. Stuff to do is low key but there are many options close by if you need to ride rides for the kids however IF you are looking for Myrtle Beach crazy this is not for you. It is a real hidden gem. With

“Vacation 2014”

Nice History and I really wasn't happy about people littering the grounds. Glass and cans and trash was spread all over. Other than that it was a great trip.

“Nice Visitor Center, Peaceful Hike & Marsh”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

We stopped by the visitor center/ranger office & viewed the various types of shells that were displayed as well as birds & turtle shells & skulls that were displayed.

Our group wanted to enjoy a hike so we opted for the trail which included the WW II bunker that housed the hermit and then continued on to the viewing area. We saw various types of birds as we proceeded on the trial through the marshes. This trail is one way in and the same way back.

Very peaceful trail. Got to enjoy the serenity of nature & the great outdoors.

Good choice for individuals who enjoy nature & some peace & quiet.
