“very interesting but Haunted place”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

First time there and did not know the history of the place. Went to check out beach and the aquarium down the road from there. As soon as I got close to the beach I just had this overwhelming feeling of dread and death the beach sand was dark and erie. There were alot of cool shells and fossils to find on the beach though. There is alot to do in that area and to see. If you are into history and ghosts this is deff. the place to go to. The trees were very strange looking as well. Two other people that were with me took pictures of the trees and their pictures didnt even show up on their camera only mine. This is one place you should visit.

“Great views + great fishing spot”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Not crowded, and great views of the water. The kids went fishing, and quickly pulled in one after another. Too small to keep, but they are thrilled. There is a museum and a spot to picnic. Fun place

“Really nice State park!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Visited the state recreation area and the historic site and enjoyed it. On an interesting note, 4 wheel vehicles are allowed, by permit, on a portion of the beach (for a fee). The swimming area has lifeguards and good facilities for changing and is a gorgeous wide, white sand beach. It's very beautiful and undeveloped in this area and it's free unless you plan to drive on the beach. Sea turtles nest along this strand of beach as well. Friendly folks, nice clean facilities and a beautiful environment... really nothing more you can ask for!

“Quiet Beach, nice beach house”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Went in late August and the beach was not crowded. Its a bit of a steep drop-off to get into the water, but the bottom is smooth and firm. They have a visitor center and beach house so its nice to have a restroom and place to change. Parking was free and it was a great place to spend the afternoon instead of fighting and paying for parking in Wrightsville Beach.

“Fort Fisher”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This was a quiet place to visit. The rough surf and rocky beach areas made for nice photos. It would be a good place to have a camper!
