It was a pleasant experience. Parking was convenient. The picture packages were a nice addition for memories.

The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a great place to go. It has a huge variety of different species (not just aquatic) and a wealth of information about each aquatic, reptile, bird, etc. They have feeding times for the fish. In addition, there is a gigantic tank full of different types of fish swimming with several sharks. There is a place for the kids and adults to touch horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, etc. There is an albino alligator, octupus, and many types of shark teeth showing the circumference of different types of sharks. There are so many different things to see. Adults and especially kids will enjoy the aquarium. Cost is $8 for adults; $7.00 for children over 6; free for children 6 and under.

The Aquarium at Fort Fisher is not a large facility with the types of exhibits you might find at someplace like the National Aquarium in Baltimore. However, it is a very well-maintained and well-staffed aquarium that is great for children and a place where adults will also learn a lot.

The touch tanks are a great way for children to feel connected with nature by petting stingrays and large crabs. We spent time with a very nice and knowledgeable volunteer who taught my wife and I about the process for turtles laying their eggs. Earlier that morning, we had walked by a protected site where a mother turtle had laid eggs the night before so this was of particular interest.

The aquarium is priced appropriately. This should be a must-see attraction for families with small children and anyone with an interest in nature.

They did have some nice exhibits but the turtle that was in a small hole with a cup of water that had this please kill me look was just sad. Sure you can't expect much for 8 bucks but really some of the animals just looked depressed.

The aquarium is a fun place to visit at Kure Beach. $8 a head seems a little high for what is inside, but when you consider the large cost of keeping it going, I guess it is not so bad. The specimens are displayed nicely and most all kids will find it quite fascinating. I would suggest going when the tourists have thinned out, as it is very dark and very crowded. Expect to be bumped into and your toes stepped on! Overall, it is a nice experience.
