“Living on reputation, but worth a try.”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

The reputation is a local bar with a speciality burger --- half correct.

As the other reviews state, it's tiny and more a bar than anything else; 6 of us " tourist" dropped in at 7PM -- Wednesday is "Open Mic" night but the only thing musical was a 2 or sometimes 4 (added a washboard & bongos) piece band with a not bad old bar singer who loves Dylan songs. The female local want-a-be joined them late and should have just listened -- dreams of Janice J. in her own mind.

We all ordered burgers, average size some with a very strange metal/parafin flavor -- either old beef or re-warmed someway; Advertised "hand-cut" fries were hand cut by Orida maybe but not fresh. Beer is relatively cheap -- the burgers are slightly over average in price;

The locals seem to enjoy welcoming us tourist -- let us play corn-hole out front with them; They have their resident happy drunk -- Mitch -- harmless and not too pushy -- wants to know where everyone is from and tends to lean on the ladies a little.

There are better burgers for less money but this place is has "atomsphere" --- and free music.

“place is great.”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

We are renting a cabin across the street. The place is really small and a seems to be a local place, but we love the place. Bar was a bar, nothing special. But the burgers are amazing and the fries are hand cut. You can't beat the price either. Two burgers and fries, seven beers and a glass of wine was 44 dollars. The locals were very friendly, telling us where to eat and where not to eat. We will be coming back there in the next few days. The bartender was unsure if the red wine was still fit to drink, so he gave me a sample prior to pouring the wine. The portions are huge if you are a wine drinker. When I joked about it, he said "that is an Art's portion". Place is great. Especially if you like small bars.

“Nothing Special Here”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

The morning we visited Art's Place for breakfast was off-season. Before we were seated, I noticed and over-abundance of flies. I asked the rest of my party if they really wanted to eat there and they all agreed to try it. The staff even apologized for the flies. Needless to say, I was immediately turned off. We ordered breakfast and while it was good, the flies were somewhat overwhelming. Perhaps another time of year might be better.
There are some interesting photos of the old days at the outer Banks and the staff is friendly and service is good.

“Funky Breakfast”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

This is a funky, cool place that happens to serve a great breakfast. Everything was cooked fresh and was delicious. Eggs and pancakes were delicious. The waitress was nice and efficient, if a little world-weary. The only negative was that the grits were a little watery. Otherwise, this is a good bet to start the day. Make sure to check out the very creative art work on the outside walls. It was pretty awesome the way they made a standard electric meter into a deep sea diver.
