Dining options: Late Night, Lunch, Dinner, Takeout
Description: Authentic. Simple. Delicious. High Cotton Barbeque has been well-known on the Outer Banks for over 10 years for their Eastern North Carolina Style Barbeque, Famous Fried or Slow Smoked Juicy Chicken, Melt in Your Mouth Ribs and Texas-style Beef Brisket. As Tarheel natives we want to share the flavors and aromas unique to Eastern North Carolina Barbeque. Consistent temperatures and long hours of smoking with hickory coals produce the characteristic pink coloring and sweet outside brown meat of our famous pork barbeque. Combined with our traditional side dishes and a glass of sweet tea and you're in High Cotton, Outer Banks Barbeque at its very best.

“Spot on!”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

We went to this restaurant with out doing any kind of internet investigation. Now I'm a certified Kansas City BBQ judge so I know my "Q". I have to say this place really throws down some excellent BBQ, I had the three meat platter (Brisket, Chopped pork and Fried Chicken) all were exceptional. I have to say the fried chicken really suprised me, they know their fried chicken as well. For a side I got some Brunswick Stew and it was the best I had ever had.
The service was quick and attentive and the wait was non existant, of course it was October, and that might have worked in our favor.
So when you in OBX and you have had yur fill of crab and other seafood, give High Cotton a visit, you will not regret it.

“Excellent BBQ and a friendly owner!”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We actually met the owner at Kill Devil Grill the day before and started talking restaurants, Urbanspoon, TripAdvisor, etc. He invited us to stop in for some NC BBQ after we told him we have been eating a lot of BBQ with our recent move to Atlanta. At High Cotton, we had the meat sampler (ribs, pulled pork, brisket and roasted chicken) with sides of baked beans, Brunswick stew and cole slaw. We thoroughly enjoyed everything as it was extremely tasty and high quality. The brisket and Brunswick stew were particularly excellent. All of the food was right up there with the best BBQ that we have had in Atlanta and anywhere else. We give high marks to High Cotton and suggest you try it!

This BBQ restaurant ain't playing! They know there BBQ! My husband said he is 54 years old and it was the best meal he has ever had at a restaurant in his life. The brisket and smoked chicken was out of this world and also the sides! Definitely on our list of places to eat everytime we come to Outer Banks:)

“True NC!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

We were staying across the street and decided to try it out. It is a simple, clean, no nonsense joint where you seat yourself, order from a simple menu and the food arrives on plastic plates before you can finish your sentence. The staff is very friendly and attentive and you probably won't have room for the chess pie (as I found out), unfortunately. It may require a special trip. :). Make time for it durin you trip!

“Classic NC Barbeque”
Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

Casual atmosphere in a very clean and fresh feeling restaurant. The portions were very satisfying and most entrees came with two sides. Pork comes lightly seasoned (which was delicious in itself) with two choices of bbq sauce on the table - BOTH sauces were outstanding. The host was very friendly and genuine and food was served quickly. Most meal choices ranged between $7-$12 and they have a less expensive children's menu. We would definitely eat here again!
