“Cypress House Inn”
Reviewed January 2, 2009

The Cypress House Inn (not to be confused with the Cypress House B&B managed by the same people) was our first experience renting a house at the Outer Banks. It is a huge house complete with furnishings and if you look in exactly the right direction you can see the ocean. Beach access is a short walk. Location was central to the places we wanted to visit. The location was also a major problem: noise from the highway. The house is adjacent to US 158 where trucks and cars can be heard all through the house. The problem was magnified by the fact that the A/C couldn't keep up with the heat. You can keep the house cool enough by opening the sliding glass doors off the kitchen and living room but then you not only let in cool air you let in noise and exhaust fumes from the highway. Most of the house was clean enough except the kitchen. The utensils, dishes, pots & pans all had to be washed before using. Carpeting and living room furniture needed a good cleaning. We did go at the end of the season so perhaps if you go in the spring, the situation might be different.

The house has many amenities: dishwasher, washer & dryer (bring your own detergent), hot tub which was temporarily out of order, outdoor shower, plenty of parking space, cable TV, VCR & DVD players

The guest is referring to our Beach House located in the Village of Nags Head. It is a 4 BR, 2.5 BA home with hot tub and access to Village Beach Club. The guest had an incredible rate in late Sept/early Oct and was offered a Thurs-Thurs stay. The house was built in 2001, so it is not an old home. There was not a cleaning team that cleaned the house for guest arrival; my husband cleaned the home himself and we have a 100% sanitation rating here at the Inn and take great pride in keeping things clean. We can only schedule larger maintenance in the off-season (Jan/Feb) and we already had plans for a new sleeper sofa in the great room (which was delivered in Dec 08) and replacement of the carpet in the great room before the 2009 season. The outside HVAC system was replaced in August 2008 so if the guest had made me aware of the cooling problem, I would have happily called the company that installed the unit just a month before.

My fiance and I stayed at the Cypress House for a 4-day weekend (Thurs-
Sun) for our friends' wedding. All the inn guests were wedding guests as well, and Bill and Veda made the Inn a great home base for our stay and all the wedding events. In addition to the amenities promised (beach towels, chairs, bikes; afternoon snacks; breakfasts) there were many others. They went above and beyond in addressing my own food allergies, which I appreciate so much. They learned everyone's names and offered help and advice with everything from directions to expected weather and more. Their 3 children/grandchildren and even their dog Lexy were cheerful and polite - cute, but never in the way. This was only my second trip to the Outer Banks and I would highly recommend staying at the Cypress House if you have the chance. Thank you so much for a wonderful time!

We stayed at the Cypress House Inn Bed and Breakfast in Kill Devil Hills (Nags Head), N.C. We had a fabulous stay. The "innkeepers," Veda and Bill Peters, are genuine hosts. They make you feel so welcome, like you are part of the family and not just a "guest." Their B & B is on the historical registry located across the street from the ocean. Their B & B is beautifully decorated and comfortable to chat in the living room drinking iced tea and eating homemade "goodies" in the afternoons. Breakfasts are homemade, delectible delights. Their son and dog are friendly, too, making your stay feel relaxed and right at home. Last but not least, they are a Christian family, which is also a "plus!" Stay at Cypress House Inn B & B when you visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

My wife and I were in town for the OBX half-marathon and were lucky enough to find the Cypress House. The owners - Bill & Veda - are great hosts. They set out treats every afternoon, had coffee ready at 7 AM, and even served a "special breakfast" for the runners at 5:45 Sunday morning. The house is located right across the street from the beach and within walking distance of several restaurants. I'd definitely recommend staying at Cypress House.

My wife and I stayed at The Cypress House for our 1st anniversary during the first week in October and had a wonderful time. Bill and Veda, the owners, provided the perfect mix of privacy and welcome for a B&B. They are very knowledgeable about the area, which was especially useful since it was our first time to the Outer Banks.

The house is one block from the beach and is well-appointed both in the rooms and in the common the areas, of which there are many. Also, it is centrally located to the northern Outer Banks, so we used it as a good home base to go exploring. We definitely recommend staying here.

In the middle of it all sits this B&B... a cozy house across the street from the beach access. It holds only a handful of guests which helps give you a unique stay here. Bill and Veda are extremely friendly and amiable and truly love what they are doing. The yards and the house are impeccably kept. The rooms/walls are made of old beautifully restored cedar and aren't the best soundproofing but that's a small detail.... you dont go to the beach to sit in your room, right? What matters is waking up to coffee outside your doors to grab for an early walk on the beach and then coming back to what could be the best breakfast in the area... we're not talking restaurant over-oiled-excessive portions, but home made of just the right portion and variety... again, they must like what they do because the breakfast is a delightful surprise and Bill serves it with a big smile.... Stay away from the McHotels and look these guys up.

From the moment we were greeted by the resident "pound puppy" Lexi, we felt right at home. The innkeepers, Bill & Veda, made us feel very welcome.

The room was very nice and well appointed. We had one in the front of the house, which was perfect for catching glimpses of the sunrise over the ocean each morning. There was plenty of room to unpack our suitcases, hang up our clothes and generally make ourselves at home. The en suite bathroom was very clean; it had only a shower stall (no tub), but that worked just fine for us.

The best part - you're only about 500 feet from the ocean! Just a quick walk across the street and out across the beach access and you're there! And beach towels, chairs and umbrellas are all available right at the B&B (no charge!) so you don't have to pack all that and bring it with you (a definite plus when you're flying instead of driving).

The wonderful breakfasts make this B&B an exceptional value. Each morning we started with fruit, coffee and juice, followed by a hot dish, such as pancakes, french toast or frittata. We got to try something new each of the 4 days we were there - and all of it was great! They also serve coffee starting at 7am for the early risers, as well as iced tea and cookies in the afternoon - a very nice, unexpected touch.

If you're looking for a centrally located, warm, relaxing, quiet, clean, comfortable place to stay in the Outer Banks - the Cypress House fits the bill perfectly.
