Description: Nestled off the beaten path in a Victorian house surrounded by 400 year-old oak trees, we are a local's favorite. Our seafood is brought in fresh daily, and we use locally grown ingredients. All the locals love our filet dishes as well as our large menu. All desserts are homemade. We are a family run restaurant with most of our staff having been with us for over 15 years. We do everything to make sure all of our customers leave happy.

My husband and I took a quick trip to KDH for our anniversary and arrived in town about 4PM on a Wednesday evening, our actual anniversary. I had become aware of the Cafe on a prior trip and was eager to try it for the first time. Although on short notice, they took our reservation and welcomed us right when they opened for the evening. What a treat. I had the filet and my husband had one of the evening specials. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. A quaint setting off the beaten path, it's easy to see why it is a favorite. Our server was wonderful and brought us a treat for our anniversary at the conclusion of our meal. We are sure to be repeat customers.

The Colington Cafe is a beautiful little restaurant in a nice location. Very romantic. A great menu with some excellent wines. Very friendly staff. My wife and I got the appetizer platter (for four) as our entree. It had a good crab dip with thin croutons to eat it on. It also included four coconut shrimp, two crab cakes and four rumakis (bacon wrapped scallops). Each had their own sauce which was good. The meal would have been outstanding had not the crab cakes, shrimp and rumakis been overcooked.

It would be hard to believe that there is a better restaurant in all of the Outer Banks. We had a lovely Sunday evening dinner in this charming old house with impeccable service, a well balanced wine list and fabulous food. Although small, you can't help but love the welcoming atmosphere of this place. Our waiter took an immediate personal interest in us from the moment we were seated to the fabulous desert. The special that night was a shrimp and grilled tuna combination over cheese grits with red eye gravy. Sounds like pretty down-home southern cuisine but the elegant presentation took it to a new level and the flavors were fabulous and definitely gourmet.. My husband was looking for beef after a weekend of seafood and proclaimed his steak perfect! Obviously adhering to the "fresh and local" rule this place is not to be missed. Be sure to make a reservation because even on a Sunday night every table was taken. although this was our first trip to OBX it will not be our last and the Colington Cafe will be on our list every time we come.

This is not the first time that we have eaten at Colington Cafe and it will not be the last. Over the years the food has been nothing less than great as well as the service.

Do not be fooled, even though the Victorian house looks very small, often great things come in small packages. The house and grounds are really fixed up really nice as seen on the web page.

You can view the menu ahead of time to get an idea of what you may like for dinner. It is really hard to recommend a specific dish since all have been very good. I tend to lean for the Fish Dujour while my wife likes the Pork Au Sherry.

The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food and service. We would recommend that you obtain reservations early in the day as they can fill up rather fast leaving you little choice of sitting times.

It is no wonder that they consistently get #1 rating on Tripadvisor….we would have to agree.

The restaurant is an old house. Food was a bit expensive but interesting specials and they are willing to alter meals (bigger or smaller size steaks). No liquor but do serve beer and wine. Interesting place
