Was fortunate to get last minute reservation for Memorial Day Weekend and was quite pleased with the accomodations. Not a large corporate setting, this hotel is smaller than most of the beach places but that's what we prefer. Rustic atmosphere with a friendly and professional staff. We had an inside room but with just a left turn out the door, we had sand in our toes. Coffee and breakfast available every morning which you should take advantage of because if you try to get into a restarurant for breakfast, you'll be waiting until lunch time. Room was clean and the pillows were amazing! Worth the price and have no problem recommending to anyone.

Our experience with the Days Inn element of the Wyndham chain is that you get a good value, basic experience. This is however an aging facility ( 60+ years) that lives off its central beach location. It is a 2 star house like most of the highly rated motels in KDH, so I suppose I should cut it some slack- so they get a 2 1/2. The initial look is an almost complete lack of ADA accommodations, so one must assume it has been grandfathered in. All rooms and public areas are 1 to 3 steps up. It is a two story motel with many steps and no elevator. You can get to the first floor public areas and rooms by going to the back of the building and up one step. But if you draw a second floor rooms you schlep your luggage up 16 stairs. The public areas were much better maintained than our rooms. The rooms were small with tiny bathrooms- the second smallest shower in our travels. The walls and trim were heavily scuffed and in need of paint. There was no closet- the clothes rod, ironing board and safe simply take up one corner of the room. The good news is the room has a large refer, microwave, very good coffee, a medium TV with lots of channels, complementary internet and newspapers. Less good were two double beds of very average quality, with average linens and towels and minimum toiletries. The complementary enhanced continental breakfast was of good quality. For whatever reason this is one of those motels that includes a $1.00 plus tax charge for the safe in your room, whether you use it or not. This is something we see from time to time traveling, but have never figured out why some do and some don't. It could be that the larger family rooms are more user friendly and the location drives the high reviews- but we would not hurry back here. This is simply not representative of our experience with Days Inn houses.

I'm very sorry that you did not seem to enjoy your stay or our Olde Nags Head charm that most of our other guests seem to enjoy bringing them back year after year. There isn't another property on this beach that rivals the Wilbur in its ambience, as we have been told many times by our guests who have stayed elsewhere on the beach before. As we own both of the hotels in this chain here on the beach, this property represents a different time as shown by how we have maintained the lobby with the large wood burning fireplace and original pine floors where our other property is more representative of a hotel you would build today with a more modern décor instead of the antiques in the lobby in of this property. We do hope that you are able to visit the Outer Banks again another time. Thank you, Tonia
