“Good location, average hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

We booked our room through Groupon. Here are the positives and negatives, from our experience:

Positives:

Great beach location. We brought along our dog, so we stayed in the first floor. Although there isn't a "beach view" from the first floor, we were able to walk right out onto the beach. We enjoyed the exterior door to the beach. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Price was also pretty good with the deal we bought. Hotel was convenient to all the things we wanted to do while on vacation.

Negatives:

I would not call any of the staff rude, but I did feel that they were less than thrilled to receive us. I'm not sure if it was because we booked through Groupon, or if it's a general attitude. It felt like the desk staff "worked there" instead of being ambassadors for their hotel. The stay could have gone from average to very pleasant with just a little effort. We were not explained the "breakfast coupon" policy. Apparently with the Groupon package you get two breakfasts per night you stay (we stayed two nights). With two adults and two children, we used up our four coupons the first day. When I asked when we pick up our coupons for day 2, I was told that we had no coupons available. Breakfast was just ok the first day anyway, so we took the opportunity to eat at a local spot. Enjoyed that much more. Construction is still on-going on the first floor which was not a huge deal to us. Others might be put off by the noise and the clutter though. The other thing was noise. There was a group of no less than 20 teenagers staying on the second floor, directly above our room. They were quite noisy late into the night. Also, the in-room heater turned on and off a lot, and was very loud when doing so. I kept waking up both nights.

In all, this hotel was a good value for an off-season Outer Banks stay. I might stay here again, depending on the situation.

Thank you for staying with us recently and also for your valuable feedback. We do hope you and the family enjoyed the Outer Banks area and has plenty of fun memories to look back upon. We hope you spent plenty of time on the beach and in our indoor pool.

We came to this hotel to enjoy a vacation and ended up leaving at midnight instead of staying the night. When getting into bed we noticed a dark brown stain on the sheets. The sheets also smelled funny and were dirty. After pulling back the sheets to get in, we found a bed bug (which explains the brown stains on the sheets). We immediately packed up our things and headed to the front desk to report to management. Management asked us for the room number, did not apologize, and wasn't even kind or considerate. I know that even clean hotels can have bed bugs but this hotel was not clean! The most disturbing part was the lack of customer service we receieved when we reported the bed bugs. They could at least apologize! Do NOT stay here under any circumstances!

We are relieved to report back to you that after a thorough examination from a certified pest control company, the final report found no evidence of bedbugs in your room. (However, a small beetle was found) Immediate action was taken because this is a very sensitive issue to us and we react quickly for everyone’s sake. Not knowing how to reach you we contacted Dynamic Rewards repeatedly in an attempt to update you. We have also sent them the conclusive report from the inspection so they would be aware and could also share this information with you. Our sincere apology for the lack of recognition provided to you by our staff during your rapid departure. This could have been handled more hospitably and we are sorry your visit ended on an unpleasant note.

We stayed for two nights as part of an online deal. We have stayed in other hotels in the area so thought we had an expectation of what was to come.

There was some refurbishment going on, but we could forgive that because it is off-season and repairs need to be done. However there was no excuse for the dirt and grime we saw.

The bedroom ceiling had pieces of dust hanging down which were blowing when the heat came on. The desk had a patch of something sticky, the refrigerator had something red and sticky running down the front of it. The worst bathroom towel had a large dark brown stain along one side. I also found stains on the bedding. To be honest when I saw all of this we decided to stay outside the hotel as much as possible. In my opinion cleanliness is the most important aspect of a hotel stay, I'm not sure if someone was cutting corners or they just didn't care. The staff in general didn't seem customer focused at check in.

I would expect a clean hotel at the very least. Stay somewhere else!

Also walls were very thin, we were kept awake by car alarms going off in the middle of the night and people arguing in another room.

The renovation progress here at the hotel has certainly kept us busy; however guest room cleanliness should never be affected. We are disappointed that you found your room to be anything less than perfect and we are quickly investigating to verify what could have occurred. Please accept our sincere apology that this happened during your recent stay with us.

We stay March 23-24 and was a last minute choice. We had never stayed in a Ramada and so we were a little hesitant. When we got there, we have a reservation for a pet friendly room, but they were able to upgrade it which we were very thankful for. The room was decent. The heat worked and we had no problems in the room besides some drainage issues in the tub. Other than that, everyone was friendly, we found the hotel clean and was a perfect location on the beach.
