“Separated from the Herd”

Hot Springs Rafting Co.

Researched the various outfits offering rafting trips along the French Broad. Since we were staying in Hot Springs, the positive reviews and the location in Hot Springs vs. driving out of town to other outposts was appealing. The local owner Rodney was very hospitable and made everyone comfortable. We traveled to the put in spot and quickly saw how our tour was more personal. Busloads were arriving from the other outfits. One even had over 20 rafts. Our guide Mikey got us onto the river and explained our roles to properly maneuver the raft. This wasn't his first rodeo. His knowledge of the river and calm instructions made the trip through the rapids feel safe while he was willing to take more challenging routs compared to the other outfits. He quickly had us separated from the herd and we had the river to ourselves. We passed other outfits eating lunch at their established roofed outposts. We were taken to a natural spot that allowed us to enjoy the nature along the river. The Maze is a memorable rapid but opt for the full day trip if you want to experience some larger rapids.

If you are coming in from Asheville for a rafting trip, take the extra time and drive into Hot Springs and give these guys a try. Experience the town and enjoy the scenery. If you're lucky, they may even give you some directions to some sites off the beaten path.

We took a 1/2 day trip in July. The staff were friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Our guide, Mikey, was super-experienced, fun, and full of stories. Even though the water is low at that time of year he took us through the bigger rapids to make it more exciting. He also knows how to handle a boat and a crew. I would recommend this company, especially because it is smaller and you get a more personal experience. We had a really enjoyable day!

We wandered in with no reservation an hour before their half day tour was to begin. They managed to add our group of four and then made us feel right at home to hang out while we waited. All the people there treated everyone with respect and with a warm smile. Even when a few of the people signed up were late to arrive, it was not a big hassle or source of annoyance. The mood for our trip was perfect! Since we had hiked into town we had our backpacks with us and they produced a secure room for us to store them in. As I mentioned, everyone was professional and cheerful but my boats guide was perfect! This guy, Mike, smiled all day long. Not a fake "lets get this over with" kinda thing either, it was a real, "I'm happy to be here with you today" kinda smile. We had an amazing trip! We felt challenged and excited and safe at all times. I also recognized and appreciated their attention to who drank water and who did not. They offered and re-offered drinking water to those that did not take it the first time and thus without annoying folks managed to get everyone to take some water. I can't wait to raft again with this group and will recommend them to my friends outright.

We just got through with this rafting trip. It was amazing and exhilarating! They really knew their stuff and did an excellent job. A small company with big personality! Mikey was our raft guide and he was GREAT!

Went rafting with this company back in July of 2013 for a half day trip. Had an absolute blast. The water was very high and moving fast, so it was over quickly. This year we decided on a full day trip with Mikey as our guide again. What an amazing day! Water was much lower, so there was time to just float and take in the scenery. While some of the other larger companies were running up to 5 rafts packed with people, the four of us were all alone with Mikey. He timed it so we had a true wilderness experience. He also took us on the most difficult lines down the river with full instruction on how to get through them safely. After the most difficult set of rapids, we docked and dined on a great spread and watched the other companies try and negotiate that set of falls (some with less success than us). All in all a killer time! Kudos again to Mikey, Rodney, and the rest of the crew for making this one of the best days I've had in a long, long time!
