“Serenity in the Smokies”

RiverDance sits atop a bluff overlooking the Laurel River, which sends its lovely soothing sounds up the cliff to your outdoor chair on an expansive wooden deck. This lodge beckons the urban traveler to come and rest; breathe in the clear mountain air, and drink in the lovely mountain views. Its cheerful hosts are very accommodating to your wishes. We elected to do things "family style" so we shared meals together with them, both indoors in the cathedral-ceiling great room and outdoors on the deck. You must book at least two nights here or you will feel cheated; the location is extraordinary and the hospitality warm and inviting.

Room Tip: Ask for the treehouse suite; the queen-sized bed is one of the most comfortable we've ever slept...

My husband & I enjoyed every minute of our stay @ River Dance. The 350ft plunge from the back porch to the 'dancing' river below was indeed a highlight. We were also spoiled by the full moon light spilling into our bedroom as we drifted off to sleep to the sound of the river outside our open windows. The location was perfect for our river rafting expedition as well as our visit to Hot Springs. Callie provided a lavish continental breakfast at the time we needed it & we enjoyed our breakfast on the back patio set as we took in the beautiful sights & sounds of the untouched mountains around us. I recommend this place only to those who want to get in touch with nature, unwind, & nurture their senses in appreciation for what nature gives us.

Room Tip: Ask for A/C unit control assistance. Although everything was neat & nothing alarmingly unclea...

We chose this place over other places in Hot Springs because of the reviews; also because of the outstanding view of the mountains with the constant sounds of the creeks below, and its proximity to a couple of hiking destinations, mainly Max Patch. Callie and Dave treated us like honored guests but also like family, and made every effort to make us feel right at home. A great, fresh breakfast is included in the stay, served in their own beautiful kitchen. The house itself is stunning, open and bright. I'm not a hot-tub person but the evening that I, my husband and teenaged daughter soaked in it and chatted with another couple, overlooking the mountains, was so relaxing. Another plus is that it's helpful to be able to stay with locals who live in the area about how to get around and recommended places to visit. Max Patch is not as close a drive from Hot Springs as I had thought (it's very remote) but is a MUST SEE and once you drive there it's just a short walk up to the top from the parking lot. If you do stay at Riverdance, make sure you bring some food to cook for lunch and/or dinner as the closest store is about 20 minutes away. In fact, Riverdance is such a wonderful respite from city life that you could just stay there and chill and relax and never do anything else.

Thanks Callie and Dave for sharing your lovely home. We certainly enjoyed the four nights we spent with you guys and we will be back. Your location is great and the views, quiet, and hospitality will be hard to beat. I really could't ask for any more from a host. Thanks again!.

I booked Riverdance after checking online for a large place to house 11 of us for two nights. We all loved our experience there. We found it to be a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. The Wellendorfs are excellent hosts. Everyone had clean, comfortable beds and bath facilities. I would gladly recommend this beautiful home to small or large groups. Four of our group went whitewater rafting and four others chose tubbing. We had a terrific dinner in Hot Springs and attended a wedding in town. Dave and Callie were so helpful with all our questions about the area. I can only imagine how beautiful their home is in the fall. The back two decks overlook a river that you can hear running and the area is surrounded by mountains yet the home is perfectly set on the edge with a hot tub. Our large group of three families ranged in ages of 1 year, 3,7,10,16, to parents and grandparents. We were not disappointed in our choice.

Room Tip: Whether you book the top floor or bottom level I feel you will be very pleased.

We stayed for 2 nights with the welcoming Dave and Callie. They were the perfect hosts; helpful when we needed them and scarce when we didn't. They fed us a delicious dinner when, due to our own poor planning, we did not make adequate prior arrangements. Their place is fantastic; post and beam construction (built like fine furniture on steroids), great views of both river and forest, hot tub, stunningly furnished and super quiet. Be sure and go out after dark and stargaze. Looking forward to our next trip there.

This amazing place provides the best of a bed and breakfast with wonderful conversations and breakfasts as well as the best of renting a cabin with private, clean accommodations. Callie and Dave are gracious hosts and truly beautiful people. Their hospitality demonstrates the best of small town life in the midst of plenty of outdoor activity. We went hiking on the Appalachian Trail, rafting down the French Broad River and soaring on zip lines while staying at RiverDance. We look forward to a return trip.
