“Fantastic place while hiking the Appalachian Trail!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Wow, what a nice place to stay when you want to hike around beautiful Hot Springs. The receptionist did an outstanding job, super friendly and charming, was a pleasure meeting her. I had a Pullman sleeper room, which was cozy with the window above the bed. Maybe a bit noisy at night since the run a pub/restaurant with live music in the basement, but after 10pm it was quiet. Near the hotel is a nice pub which offered live music too. All in all, a kind of "young" town because of all the hikers. Go for it!

We spent Friday and Saturday night at The Iron Horse and really enjoyed it. Have you ever walked by an old building in an old town and seen wide stairs leading up and wondered what it used to be like? The Iron Horse is wonderfully restored and really gives the feeling of the 1929 inn it was. The main hall way upstairs has the tin roof, wood floors, and original doors, restored to brand new looking condition.
We stayed in room 215, a "Pullman room" looking out over the train tracks and above the entrance to the restaurant and tavern. The room was very clean and nicely furnished with period type furninture and decorations. Again the stamped tin roof... so neat. The bathroom was efficient and sufficient. The transom over the door worked. The dual level shutters over the window let us enjoy the mountain view and retain privacy.
There was noise from the live music in the restaurant below, and 3 trains went by in the evening and night, but the music stopped at 10 and seemed to quiet down after 8. The rooms are not up to current period sound proofing, but.... that is part of the charm. We wanted 1929, and got it in a pleasant way.
The woman/women at the desk were so nice and friendly, fun to talk with, and helpful.
The Iron Horse seems to fit the spirit of the town well. We would love to stay there again. It is very recommendable. And the restaurant/tavern is another review but as enjoyable as the inn.

Room Tip: We stayed the first night in a "deluxe room" and then switched to the "Pullman"...

We made an unexpected trip to Hot Springs at the last minute. It had been a busy week so figured we would check it out. We knew there wasnt many places to choose from in Hot Springs but didnt expect this hotel. The lady at the front-the manager-was outstanding! She was generous with her time and about the friendliest manager I have ever met. She let us check out the rooms before we decided and made arrangements for us to visit the springs. The room was different and unlike any room I have ever stayed in but I wasnt sure if I would like to stay without TV or telephone(no cell service). Im glad we did! It provided a much needed mini vacation (overnight) for my husband and myself. The hotel is really old but it is worth trying out! All of our friends have heard about this little hotel. We love it and hope to return!

My wife and I decided to visit Hot Springs for our 6 year anniversary this weekend. I looked around at all the different inns, hotels, cabins etc. in town and something caught my eye about The Iron Horse Station. We checked in Sunday afternoon and Beverly was welcoming and warm. Our room was spacious, clean, and cozy. The big windows that opened to the mountains and the claw foot tub was a nice touch. Our bed was comfy and we both slept well. It was raining out so we decided to stay in and have our anniversary dinner at the restaurant downstairs. We had a nice bottle of wine, but the food was amazing. My wife and I both work in the service industry in Asheville and we know a thing or three about good well prepared food and the Mediterannean pasta special was delicious and would have cost much more 30 miles south in downtown Asheville. Expert service also accompanied our meal. I was even able to catch the last part of a basketball game in the lounge area on their big flat screen before going off to bed. This place was a boarding house in the 1800's and the charm and class of the era remains. We will return.

Our stay at the Iron Horse was fabulous and we look forward to our next trip.We ate at the Iron Horse Restaurant..the food was great. We loved the gift shop too. We had a suite of two bedrooms that we thought were so comforable and homey. Rachel, Gwen and Nyda

Room Tip: We don't think you could possibly go wrong if you choose the Iron Horse.

We stayed In a Pullman sleeper room, going for economical at this hotel. Queen size bed but a still bigger than we expected! Hard wood floors everywhere, skylight in our room. Was nice and cozy! Hotel is connected to the restaurant but guests can enjoy the mezzanine level overlooking the restaurant and entertainment below. Mezzanine is also equipped with big flat screen and microwave etc. comfy area for hanging out and visiting with others visiting Hot Springs! We enjoyed Iron Horse Station very much and recommend giving it a try when passing through or staying the weekend!
It is located right at the edge of town next to the railroad tracks. When we were In The restaurant we saw/ heard the train several times yet never heard it in our particular room.

The Iron Horse Station has a first-rate restaurant and an interesting gift shop downstairs, and quaint and comfortable accommodations upstairs. What more could we want for an ideal vacation? We walked a span of the Appalachian Trail from the front of the station, and just across the street, we bathed in a private hot tub at the Hot Springs Resort on the banks of a beautiful mountain stream. We can't wait to get back to fish in the trout stream which flows next to the town of Hot Springs. What a relaxing and enjoyable vacation!

Room Tip: We are TV people, and although there are no TV's in the rooms, there is a large lounge area to w...
