What a fun way to enjoy a weekend in NC. I went to Hot Springs campground over Labor Day weekend with four other friends. We camped in the campground which was very clean and a beautiful area. I would suggest trying to land a river front spot or a back row spot. The middle (where we were) was a little to out in the open. The showers however and restrooms were clean and for a holiday weekendthey were available at most times. I suggest venturing out to the Spring Creek Tavern just a short walk from the campgroundfor an evening out, prices are much more reasonable then the Iron Horse, and they have lots of beer to try, and outdoor seating, very laid back atmosphere! We hiked the Lovers Leap trail and it is worth it for the exercise and the view from the top overlooking the river. I would go back to Hot Springs just as soon as I can! (bring ear plungs, dogs tend to bark a lot at night) HAVE FUN! Also, if it is not to hot out try an evening renting a Hot Tub on site at the resort near the river.

private tubs, secluded, great time. It was dark out so felt more secuded. JETS on tub didn't work but I hear that's common. Sign right there on the tub says no refunds or discounts if jets don't work. Hey, just fix the jets if so many complain about it.
We'll be back, you don't really need the jets to have a good soak anyway. Even if the jets worked, I'd probably leave them off so noise wouldn't spoil the sound of the river jsut a few feet away.

With a name like that & fancy pictures to heighten your expectations, it will only disappoint those w/o a sense of humor. I can't say that we didn't benefit at all from the healing natural waters of our soak & that we didn't love the relaxing techniques of our gifted massage therapists. What we envisioned however was an aesthetically pleasing trip to match the other senses. In our experience, a spa has the usual lure of low lighting, low talking-if at all, and pampering from the time you enter to the time you leave. But it seems that Hot Springs Resort doesn't cater to that concept as the lighting is fluorescent & bright as you step into the double wide trailer (?) and even in your massage room. This is a bare bones/free health clinic atmosphere where there's not even complimentary water offered after your massage. Instead they have bottled water in an obliging fridge for you to purchase at an overrated price! I gave the 'average' rating instead of poor because of the good massage services & the privacy of the cabins & their location being picturesque on the river. But being health conscious, we were puzzled that these healing waters would be received in fiberglass tubs, taking the natural healing benefits right down the drain w/all the toxic residue. We certainly envisioned a large pool of hot steaming water inset in natural rock/stone for the enhancement of absorbing mineral benefits of the water with lush surroundings instead of a field of grass w/white unattractive buildings & dusty parking area. We feel that if there are not sufficient funds to enhance the property and 'spa', that the name should be changed so as not to mislead the uninformed traveler. I'm sure for Appalachian Trail hikers this is a great revamping place. But for a tourist, it is somewhat of a disappointment.

The hot tubs at the Resort were great. The Vance Room was a bit small, however, we did enjoy the jacuzzi hot tub in our suite. It was nice to have the privacy and availability whenever we wanted to have a soak. The staff is very friendly. The camp ground was clean and we felt very safe.

The spa has more than a dozen private hot tubs running along a river bank and filled with natural mineral water from the area hot springs. The tubs are cleaned and filled after each use and the water temperature is naturally in the upper 90s. The grounds retain remnants of the hotels and resort buildings from the past, which adds to the atmosphere. The spa seems to stay very busy and offers many amenities. On our visit, we were a little disappointed with the massages, but they are reasonably priced and not the main attraction.
