The Highlands Inn was the most relaxing, CUSTOMER FRIENDLY place I have stayed at in years. The room was perfect, the home made cookies and coffee at night was great. The Inn had an unbelievablely great breakfast and the catered dinner was superior. We are already talking about a return trip in the Fall. Highly recommended!!!!

Beware of the room - they're not all created equal! We were in Room 38 and were not impressed. As they leave empty rooms unlocked and opened we looked in some of them and truely believe that we had the worst room at the Inn. They shouldn't be priced the same.

The "country breakfast" had about 4 different hot or warm items with the 3 of the 4 containing apples. No variety in the breakfast at all. No eggs. No bacon.

We paid about $179 for our room which I felt was really expensive for what we got. When I questioned the rate on the phone I was told "that's what we get" and "the place across the street (Old Edwards Inn) gets around $300." Well, let me say that the Highlands Inn is NOT the Old Edwards Inn.

When I checked out I was never asked about my stay or thanked for my business. They take customers paying $200 (with tax) per night for granted.

In my opinion all the hotels, inns, etc in Highlands North Carolina are over-priced. Better values for the dollar in Elijay or Blue Ridge. The Highlands thinks they're Asheville or something - and they aren't.

  • Liked — i can't think of anything
  • Disliked — small room. too expensive.

We were spending a few days "Just Wandering" and found ourselves well up into the mountains in Highlands NC at 5:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful July afternoon and wondering if we might stay in Highlands for the evening??

Fortuitiously there was a parking slot right in front of the Inn so we thought "Let's give it a try"...

The Staff was soo sooo very helpful and gave us a discount on one of their "River View Suites" a short walk from the main hotel building...The accommodations were great, 4 poster bed, whirlpool tub, fireplace, private deck, very very nice!!
The Breakfast Buffet was also quite good too!!

The only "What if " I could add would be to advise that Highlands NC is even quieter than anyone would begin to surmise...

We settled into our room a little after 6:00 PM had a rest, cleaned up, and a cocktail or two enjoying the river and the setting ...just wonderful

But when we had walked up the hill to the town about 9:00PM for dinner… much to our dismay "EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED UP FOR THE EVENING"!!!

Not a local pub, lounge, pizza joint ...nothing...YIKES!!!!

Bring a book!!!!

I know some folks find that to be splendid…not our cup O’tea!!

Larry

Our stay at the Mountain Brooks Suites at the Highlands was not particularly impressive. The room was large, the bed was large and the bathroom was large but everything was a little worn and the decor was dated. The breakfast buffet was no better than I've had at many chain motels and exactly the same every day, even Sunday.

The room overlooked a beautiful stream which was nice but it was also situated directly on top of a restaurant; one which was presenting live, and extremely amplified music. We had to leave the room because the vibration from the amps was so bad.

The Highlands Inn is not connected to the restaurant and apparently does not own the building which houses the suites. Therefore, there wasn't much they could do. We asked for and received a discount for the hours during which the music was playing and we could not enjoy our room.

Prospective guests might want to inquire whether this situation has been remedied.

You deserve to reward yourself with a very special treat. You must not miss this one. If you are looking for a place to visit that will thrill you, feed you and bring much needed rest for your Spirit...there is one very unique little spot that will deliver all of this personally. Get your map out and look at Highlands, North Carolina. No matter what your geographical location, you must plan a trip to this area. While thinking that this whole world had become caught up in the "rat race" of standing in line or waiting in traffic, Highlands Inn was marvelously recommended for a private get-a-way that would soothe this weary traveler. I now plan my entire yearly calendar around my visits to this mountaintop village. Highlands is a small hamlet atop a beautiful mountain range in North Carolina that is as rewarding as the cherry on top of your favorite dessert. Treat yourself to the genuine hospitality at Highlands Inn. Chat with Manager, Tim, who will greet you as soon as you open the front door. The staff brings their smiles to work with them. Your reservations and arrival will immediately take you to an earlier time when crisp clean sheets, gorgeous decor, sitting rooms, porches, staircases spilling into an antique furnished lobby leading to the dining room will carry you through to one visit after another of delight, rest and memories. ENJOY!!! You deserve this one.

We just returned from three nights in Highland. The Inn was a great disappointment and we would not recommend that anyone stay there. We were in the Mountain Brook Suites and they had a very stale and moldy smell. The outside area overlooked a stream but the building had a large outdoor air conditioner which made the area very noisy. We asked for comfortable seating and all they had were plastic chairs, no rocking chairs like the main Inn. When we called to ask for chairs they told us that they could not do anything. The breakfast service was very poor and they ran out of food all three mornings. A big disappointment.
