What a wonderful feeling when you're far from home and then you enter Mitchells and the feeling returns. Ginger welcomed us as if we had known her forever. She's exactly what every motel , hotel and Inn should have. There isn't anything she wouldn't do to make sure all your comforts are met. The rooms are amazing, clean and wonderfully decorated. whether you choose , a cabin, Ceder Lodge or the original Log Lodge, you won't be disappointed. Sit outside on a rocking chair with your complimentary continental breakfast, then take a walk through the beautifully appointed grounds. Just a couple blocks away you'll find Main Street with wonderful shops and restaurants. Thankyou Ginger, Liz and Zander for making my visit from Upstate NY a great experience

We stayed in one of the older rooms. It was clean and had a nice little porch with rocking chairs outside our door. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the price was right. On the downside, it was very dark because of the small windows and dark wooden walls and the bathroom was tiny. Pillows were not the best and bed was only OK.
Continental breakfast was included which was handy for us since we were there to attend a workshop and wanted to get on with our day. The breakfast was OK, but not wonderful. It offered several options but I would have liked to see some yogurt and fresh fruit included.
All in all, I might return, but would upgrade to one of the newer rooms which looked really nice in the photos.

Room Tip: Newer rooms are bigger and have decks, larger windows and light colored walls which make them much b...

We recently spent three nights at Mitchell's Lodges & Cottages in one of the older rooms. This was the only room available for the three nights we wanted. When we checked in, the desk clerk commented that she wished a newer room was available for free upgrade; however, there was not. After the days there, we wished that the newer upgraded room was available also. The mattress was way too soft and the room interior was reminiscent of the 50's - small bath, washed out sheets, no comfortable chairs (two straight chairs). The inroom coffee maker had a 3-prong plug but the only receptacle with three prongs was in the bathroom - thus we had to prop the coffee maker on the sink in order to use it. The staff at the front desk were friendly and the weather in Highlands did not disappoint! As always, August was delightfully cool with no gnats or mosquitos. We will definitely look for another lodge in the future and probably not return to Mitchell's.

Room Tip: Do not select on the of older/orignal rooms. There is a new section but was already booked when we...

Modestly priced pleasant motel on the outskirts of the resort town of Highlands in the North Carolina mountains. Great beds, a/c plus overhead fan, modern bathrooms. Rocking chairs in front of every room. Meeting rooms available. About $80.00 a night for a standard double with limited breakfast included.

Room Tip: Skip breakfast at the motel and go into Highlands for a great old-fashioned breakfast at the Mountai...

The grounds are quiet despite the road behind the buildings. There are flowers in window boxes, spacious rooms with comfy beds, coffee maker, small fridge and microwave and even a toaster with plates and glasses. I love to enjoy a glass if wine on the patio overlooking the stream below. There is a great pond with a fountain, a bigger deck to have coffee or breakfast on. They serve coffee, cereals and sweet rolls at breakfast. Perfect for me and Tom, my husband. Ginger is very helpful and friendly, making us feel at home. The climate and surroundings are Deliciously cool and relaxing after the 95 degrees of Atlanta. It shoul be a quiet evening after a lively dinner at Smokies barbecue or Flipside. Thank you, Tripadvisor, for helping me decide in Mitchell's for my stay.

My daughter and I were spending one night only in Highlands, NC and luckily went with Mitchell's based on the positive reviews. We stayed in room #25, a "deluxe" with 2 queen beds, for a very reasonable price. I can't speak for the "standard" rooms or the cabins, but both my little girl and I were very happy with our room. It was roomy and quiet and clean, with comfortable beds and a private porch overlooking the little creek. The location is very good, close to quaint Highlands but private-feeling too...a true "getaway" feel. If we had been fortunate enough to stay longer, the kitchenette in our room would have been handy. As it was, I felt cozy and taken-care of, definitely like I got my money's worth and more. I would stay there again!

Room Tip: Spring for the "deluxe" rooms, bring some fruit or protein to add to the continental break...
