We had a wonderful brunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived at 1:00 and were seated immediately at a lovely table overlooking the lake. We had two young granddaughters in our party and received excellent service and attention throughout the brunch. The Bloody Mary's were " make your own" and a real treat. My son-in-law makes the best ever and I loved that he could make them to our taste. We had the prime rib, scallops, and trout while the children enjoyed scrambled eggs and French toast.
The staff was attentive and kind to the children throughout the brunch ( crayons, whipped cream, fruit ). The food and atmosphere were superb. My husband especially loved the piano music . What a wonderful, restful way to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Bravo!!!

We've been to Highlands multiple times. We've passed this restaurant and always meant to go while there. This time we did. We are glad we did. The food was excellent! But what made our visit to this restaurant was our waiter, Billy. He engaged us like a personal friend. And, he kept coming back, not obtrusively, but to extend his friendliness time and time again. ALL restaurants should have a Billy. With any luck his 10 year old son will grow up to be just like him. Bill loves that little boy.

Although our family has vacationed in Highlands many times, this the first time we have dined at On the Verandah. The staff is so friendly and they made us feel very welcome. The setting is nice - right on the lake - and we were there at sunset. Beautiful! There were three in our party, we all ordered different entrees and each was delicious (grouper, lemon chicken and pork chop). The chocolate, bourbon pecan pie (served warm a la mode) provided a wonderful ending to a meal to remember. Gregory was our server and he not only met but exceeded all of our expectations. We look forward to returning.

We go to Highlands almost every year and can't wait to see what Chef Andrew has on the menu. Did not disappoint again!!!. The golden beat salad was amazing, so was the Fresh Trout and the Veal Porterhouse was to die for.. Save room for dessert! Service was excellent, wine list was extensive. Be back next year, must visit to Highlands, NC

This is an interesting restaurant, a kind of rustic setting on a lake. It is comfortable, and the food options are varied and very good. Our server was new but eager, and we enjoyed her. She'll be very good someday. We had the good fortune of being there when a bluegrass band was playing (we were "warned" when making our reservation and when we arrived, and we thoroughly enjoyed the live music.
